July 9, 2010 (London, Ontario) The classic line is “Gentlemen, start your engines” but in recent years savvy race-starters have been wise to say, “Drivers, start your engines!” Michelle Korcina's first feature win tonight is just more proof that women are slowly but surely making their mark on the racing world.
By the second lap of the Demar Aggregates Trucks feature it was a looking like a repeat of their first heat with Derek Clark (7) and Devon Bloemendal (01)out front. In the heat, Bloemendal beat Clark by a hair. In the feature, Bloemendal took the lead from Clark at lap 5, while Paul Fothergill (33) who started the race in the 13th position, worked his way up to third by the one-third mark of the 25 lap race. A caution was called at lap 9 as Shae Gemmell (3) spun and in a separate situation, second heat winner Chad Rijen's 16 started smoking at got a push into the pits. He later said his transmission was the issue.
Fothergill took over the lead at lap 13 with Jeff Showler (56) on his heels, followed by Bloemendal. Showler had moved up from the very back of the pack. Fothergill was expanding his lead when at lap 17 Michelle Korcina (99) had some contact with points-leader Gary Adriaensen (55) who spun out and ended up on pit road. Steve McCaw (82) took responsibility for unintentionally causing the trouble and apologized.
On the restart after a caution at lap 18, the top three all spun out on turns three and four, opening the race up to the rest of the competitors except the 15 of Craig Marche, which came in. The shake-up cost Bloemendal a rad and ended his night. On the green flag Michelle Korcina (99) picked up the lead followed closely by Cole Powell (31). Gary Adriaensen got his truck back out at this point, down a lap.
Korcina had to fight hard on the last lap to maintain the lead and make her first trip to Victory Lane. Jordan Dupuis (75) finished second and Cole Powell in third. Derek Clark (7) was fourth; Shawn Johns (00) fifth.
Two lead changes and one caution in a clean and quick Powerade Modifieds feature race. 8 time champ Jamie Cox (3) took the lead from pole-sitter Darrell Limon (54) at lap 5 and held it for the remainder of the 25 laps. Cox finished with an almost 2-second lead over second place finisher David McCullough (39). Paul Shipway (88) was third, Justin Demelo (82) fourth and Barry Newman (1) fifth.
Delaware Super Stocks had Jared Shields (7) at the pole. The first caution came at lap 3 as the 17 of Rob Anderton went sideways on turn one.
The 76 of Jeremy Reid took the lead at lap 6. With Reid and Shields out in fresh air, the battle for third at the halfway point had Scott Nagy (99) Darrell Lake (77) and Jake Ott (60) bumping and fighting it out until Ott took it away at lap 14. Ott was creating some space behind his back bumper until defending champion Jason Lidster (11) seemingly came out of nowhere to grab third. Lidster had actually started 14th.
Caution at lap 21 as Al Bowman went sideways on turn 2 and stalled facing traffic.
On the restart Shields slowed way down due to some sort of mechanical problem. A last lap bump-and-run put Jason Lidster first to the checkered flag but ultimately earned him a black flag and lost him the right to visit Victory Lane. Officials determined there were several maneuvers by the 11 that brought out the black. The win went to Jeremy Reid followed by Jake Ott, Kris Lawrence (28), Darrell Lake and Steve Smith (84).
Next weekend we have two nights of racing: Friday July 16th and Saturday July 17th.. Friday night's action is presented by Siskinds The Law Firm and features NASCAR Late Models, Demar Aggregates Trucks and Delaware Super Stocks. Racing starts at 8. Saturday's line-up includes Transmission Direct Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting and Coating Chaos Cars. Racing starts at 7 pm!

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (July 9) - Jordan Szoke of Brantford, Ont. will try to add to his Parts Canada Superbike Championship points lead from the head of the pack at Mosport International Raceway this weekend.
The 31-year-old four-time defending series champion took his third Inside Motorcycles Pole Position Award of the season despite seeing the Pirelli SuperPole session cancelled on Friday.
Thursday afternoon's practice times will instead set the line-up for the fourth and fifth rounds of the series, and Szoke was fastest in that session with a time of one minute, 20.829 seconds on his Waznie Racing / BMC Ciclo Werks / DeWildt Honda Powerhouse Honda CBR1000RR.
His time was under the track lap record of 1:21.061 set by Brett McCormick last year but does not count as a new mark since it was not recorded during an official qualifying session.
“Our race set-up is good, we know we can run the times we did yesterday,” Szoke said. “I think we could have run mid to low 20s in the cooler conditions today, but what can you do?”
The top 10 runners from Thursday's practice were lined up and ready to go in the Pirelli SuperPole session when reports of rain around the track forced the session to be scrubbed at the last minute.
“It's too bad for the fans that there's no SuperPole,” Szoke said, who has won all three rounds of the series so far this year. “But you can't do anything stupid. The track is not 100 per cent and it's a little dangerous in those circumstances.”

While Szoke does get credited with pole position he doesn't pick up the four points that normally go along with setting the fastest time. He heads into this weekend's races with a 54-point lead, 164-110, over Francis Martin in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship standings.
Martin will start this weekend's races second on the radX HD / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR after turning a lap at 1:22.209 on Thursday.
“It's too bad we didn't have a day to improve the bike at all, but it's the same situation for everybody,” said the Sherbrooke, Que. rider, who is coming off a runner-up finish in the most recent round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park. “We'll try some different things before the race tomorrow and see how it works.”
Frank Trombino of Kleinburg, Ont. will line up third on his ProStar Motorsports / Sturgess Cycle Honda CBR1000RR with a time of 1:22.327 from Thursday and Kars, Ont.'s Andrew Nelson completes the front row on the Orion Motorsports / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR after turning a practice lap at 1:23.161.
“I'm happy with where we're at,” said Trombino, a two-time Superbike race winner at Mosport. “Third place is good. I think we'll leave things the way they are and see how it goes.”
Michael Ferreira of Mississauga, Ont. leads off the second row of the grid for this weekend's races on the second of the radX HD / BMW Motorrad Canada entries. Next up is Uxbridge, Ont.'s Alex Welsh on the Competition Systems Kawasaki Race Team Kawasaki ZX-10R with Matt McBride starting seventh aboard the Budds' Motorrad / Riders Choice BMW S1000RR in his first appearance of the season.
Keene, Ont.'s Jodi Christie (Jodi Christie Racing / Durham Honda Powersports Honda CBR600RR), Cody Matechuk of Cochrane, Alta. (Acceleration Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000) and Montreal racer Marie-Josee Boucher (Excel Moto Honda CBR1000RR) complete the top 10 starters for this weekend's races.
Boucher would have been the first woman to participate in Pirelli SuperPole had the session taken place on Friday.
Practice times were also used to set the grids for this weekend's four other national class races at Mosport.
Szoke will start on pole position for the pair of Pro Sport Bike races after the four-time defending class champion turned a lap at 1:23.664 in Thursday afternoon practice aboard his Honda CBR600RR.
Christie will line up second on the grid on his Honda CBR600RR thanks to his time of 1:24.119 on Thursday. Szoke leads Christie by 32 points, 164-132 in the Pro Sport Bike standings.
The front row is completed by Trombino (Honda CBR600RR) and Jean-Francois Cyr of Ste-Adele, Que. (CyRacing Suzuki GSX-R600).
Series leader Raphael Archambault of St-Colomban, Que. gets pole position in the Amateur Sport Bike class thanks to his 1:27.215 practice time on Thursday. The Archambault Racing / Centre Hamel Honda-backed rider has won all three races in the series so far this year.
Burlington, Ont.'s Jody Greening (Suzuki GSX-R600), Marcel Irnie of Kelowna, B.C. (IrnieRacing / Amsoil Kawasaki ZX-6R) and Hamilton, Ont. racer Steven Nickerson (STN Racing / DeWildt Honda Powerhouse Honda CBR600RR) complete the front row.
The points leader in the K&N Filters Sport Twins class, Rob Busby of Brantford, Ont. will go from pole position in this weekend's two races on his Buell XB12, and Ryan McCormick of St-Lazare, Que. earned his first pole in the Honda CBR125R Challenge.
Qualifying was held for the Canadian debut of the TTXGP eGRAND PRIX electric motorcycle series. Michael Barnes of Boca Raton, Fla. was fastest with a time of 1:39.289 on his Lightning entry for an average speed of 143.472 km/h (89.158 mph).

"It's really a neat deal for companies like Budweiser and someone like Kasey Kahne to get behind our sport and
to come out here and put some races on for us with this mini-series," shared Meyers after Kahne presented him the title on Thursday night. "It was really great that they did this and we are very thankful to them. We've been working really hard this season and had a very good start to the year and hopefully this is a sign of things to come."
Meyers was the most consistent driver that competed during the four Showdown for the Bud Crown events, in all aspects of the night, as drivers earned event points not only for the feature event, but also for time trials and heat races.
The native of Clovis, California finished first, sixth, seventh and eighth aboard the GLR Investments KPC in the four A-Feature events, as well as was being quickest in time trials in two Bud Crown races and was among the Top-Two in qualifying in three of the races and seventh in the other, which set him apart from McMahan and Kinser. Meyers finished in the Top-Three in three of the heats races he took part in during the Showdown for the Bud Crown and was among the Top-Five in all four heat races during the mini-series.
"It was very important each time we hit the track with the event points that were earned," he noted. "I wasn't exactly sure where we stood in this thing until about a week ago. Right now we are just worried about winning the World of Outlaws championship and this is just a bonus on top of it."
Kasey's King of LaSalle on Thursday night brought the World of Outlaws back to LaSalle Speedway for the first time since 2004, before one of the largest crowds in track history on what turned out to be a very nice night weather-wise. Meyers entered the race at LaSalle with just one career start at the high-banked ¼-mile bullring, with that coming in 2004, when he finished fifth. He quickly got up to speed in his return to the track and raced his way into the dash to earn a Top-10 starting spot in the main event, eventually finishing eighth.
"It was completely different than the last time we were here," he explained of the track surface on Thursday night. "It was a very racy track here tonight. My hat is off to the guys at SLS (Promotions) for giving us a great surface to race on. We didn't exactly have the race car we wanted tonight, and definitely did not the finish quite where we wanted, but we'll work on that for the next race."
The Showdown for the Bud Crown tested drivers on three very different types of race tracks. The first two rounds were at the ultra high-banked Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee and Round 3 was at the big half-mile of Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia. The finale at LaSalle was held on a high-banked ¼-mile bullring.
"That's what the World of Outlaws is all about, going to different tracks," Meyers stated. "Versatility is what it takes to adapt and to adapt quickly. You have a lot of teams out here that do a great job at what they do and some of the toughest competition in the world is out here. You have to adapt and this mini-series showed exactly how that worked."

Jason Meyers Edges Paul McMahan by Just Four Points to Earn Bud Crown Title:
Top-3 in Event Points Share $15,000 Bonus from Budweiser
LaSalle, IL-July 9, 2010- Jason Meyers has received some unique trophies over the years for winning races and added another one to that collection on Thursday night, as he claimed the title in the Showdown for the Bud Crown, picking up a large shiny silver metal crown, filled with bottles of Budweiser. In addition to the crown, he pocketed $9,000 from the $15,000 bonus that the Top-Three in the mini-series standings split with Paul McMahan second and 20-time series champion Steve Kinser third.
The difference between Meyers and McMahan after the four races wound up being just four points, which was one single position on the race track, though Meyers held the tiebreaker if it would have come down to that, having won Round 2 of the Showdown for the Bud Crown at Volunteer Speedway in Tennessee back in March.

Weedsport, NY - July 9, 2010 - Current Super DIRTcar Series points leader Billy Decker will be at Cayuga County Fair Speedway looking for his second series win of 2010 during All-Star Weekend while Matt Sheppard will be in search of a second straight tour triumph at Cayuga County after capturing the Hall of Fame Classic in May. Each own wins at Brewerton Speedway this season.
Ryan Phelps has had the July 15-17 dates at both sites marked on his calendar for months, with all his attention lately given to defending the coveted All-Star 100 title earned in last year's inaugural event.
So far riding in the shadows of his contemporaries during much of the '10 campaign, record seven-time and defending Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Champion Brett Hearn will also be back with even more incentive than before --- $26,000 in first-place winnings for the 'Super DIRT Weekend of the Summer' shootout in the heart of DIRTcar Northeast.
“The next three months is certainly the time of year you have to make things happen,” remarked Hearn, who is hoping to carry his momentum into Central New York this week and cash in on a lucrative victory in the Empire State. The 'Jet' flies into town fresh off his first tour top-five finish of 2010 --- a second-place last Sunday behind Sheppard in the 'Stars & Stripes 100' presented by SUNY Canton across town at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. “Coming up pretty quick with All-Star and heading right to Canada after that, it's a huge part of the series.”
“We've kind of dug a deep hole, so unless a couple guys totally fall off the series we'll need something beyond our power to get back on top. Right now I have to pretty much race myself against the track, not the competition. Need to keep racking up top-three finishes and not worry about what anyone else is doing, or what I don't have any control over,” figured Hearn, who overcame a 68-point deficit in the 2007 finale to capture the overall Mr. DIRTcar crown ahead of Tim Fuller, who posted his only DNF in 32 races after a motor finally expired with less than 30 laps to go.
Hearn will have three more chances to get the job done as action at nearby Brewerton Speedway kicks off the extended DIRTcar All-Star Weekend on July 15 with the 'Longhorn Trucking 50' headlining the Thursday evening Super DIRTcar Series card. Cayuga County opens with another $3,000-to-win 50-lapper on Friday before racers return to the 3/8-miler on Saturday to conclude the richest short-track summertime event in the country for Big-Block Modifieds.
“This season is pretty much the opposite of the last one when we started out with all top-3s in the first seven races,” recalled Hearn, who finished fourth and fifth in last July's All-Star twin-billl at Cayuga County en route to ending the year with three trophies to push his all-time career total to 103 tour wins. “Our new car just didn't pan out the way we wanted. We went back to last year's ride and we're moving forward again, hopefully just in time.”
Despite his second-place tally Sunday at Rolling Wheels, Hearn trails Series points leader Billy Decker by 157 markers through seven shows with Matt Sheppard, Jimmy Phelps and Danny Johnson sandwiched in between. The good news is that less than a third of the schedule has been run and the Sussex, N.J. speedster owns victories at nearly every remaining host track.
“Sooner or later we have to draw better, that's been one of the variables not working in our favor lately,” added Hearn, who selected starting spots among the front five in the initial three events yet has fared no better than 10th-position on the grid the past four 100-lappers. “The competition is so close nowadays you have to have everything going your way. Better track position is the key. I know we've got a car capable of staying ahead now if we can just get there first.”
Buckled into the familiar Madsen Motorsports no. 20 Wentworth Custom Homes-Benjamin Moore Paints/TEO entry, Hearn joins the best Big-Block teams in the business along with hundreds of hungry race fans in their invasion of the Cayuga County Fairgrounds for a festive weekend filled with camping, music, fireworks, food and fun. Advance tickets for the 2010 edition of DIRTcar All-Star Weekend at Cayuga County are still available along with a limited number of reserved campsites. Reserved seat tickets can be purchased by calling the ticket hotline at 315/834-6606 or going on-line to
and clicking the 'Buy Tickets' button.
A two-day (Fri-Sat) reserved ticket purchased for All-Star Weekend prior to July 14 is only $39. Camping permits remain at $50 per reserved spot (includes water hookup) and $30 for general camping, while the popular Infield Tailgate Party offering trackside parking and access to the infield stage, will again be offered.
Also available for Friday & Saturday are a limited quantity of All-Star VIP Club memberships that entitle card holders to catered refreshment service along with exclusive access to the tower overlooking Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Nightly costs for these awesome All-Star VIP Club cards are $50 (Fri.) and $75 (Sat.); $110 for both days, with each coming complete with food and beverage provisions along with a premium parking pass and special pass for pit admission.
