This weekend Delaware Speedway
Weedsport, NY - July 14, 2010 - All-Star Weekend at Brewerton Speedway and Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Central New York features the next Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series events for Big-Block Modified and Sportsman teams, with Pro Stocks resuming action in late August while the 358-Modifieds won't return to activity until Labor Day.
An 8th consecutive Top-5 tally on tour has opened up Billy Decker's lead in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Blocks with Danny Johnson retaining a narrow margin in the 358-Modified Series until September rolls around on the race calendar. Ryan Susice heads into All-Star Weekend at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on July 17 leading the Sportsman Series points race while Pro Stock pace-setter Louie Jackson returns to tour competition on home soil Aug. 21 when Mohawk Int'l Raceway doubles up with a World of Outlaws Late Model Series stop.
DIRTcar Northeast Regional open-wheel point leaders remained intact in every open-wheel division but one, with Brett Hearn in the Big-Block ranks making the only move to the top during the past week. A final reminder that drivers must hold a valid 2010 DIRTcar License, purchased by July 15, or be dropped from all weekly point tabulations.
While Hearn vaulted from 4th to 1st in the Eastern Region point standings, DIRTcar Northeast's Big-Block feature win leaders and Series standouts Jimmy Phelps and Matt Sheppard continue to lead the way in the Central Region point standings. Jeremiah Shingledecker maintains his stronghold in the West corridor.
Mirroring his position on a weekly basis since the beginning of the season, Tim O'Brien heads the DIRTcar 358-Modified Northern Region point standings with division-high six-time race winner Carey Terrance still the closest on his trail. 'Mr. Small-Block' Pete Bicknell is once again showing how the West was won as he continues to out-gain Niagara Frontier foe Chad Brachmann on the Canadian-American front.
A crash, rain and Sunday night off kept overall DIRTcar NE feature winner Chris Raabe out of victory lane, yet the 'Teenage Tornado' still leads the Northern division points maxing out at 720 while racking up 17 victories along the way. Hoosier-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar title contenders Steve Gray (Central) and Ryan Susice (Western) lead the way in their weekend title bids, while Tony Farone (Eastern) is in control with eight more weekends of regional point events circled on the agenda.
To follow the status of your favorite DIRTcar driver throughout the season, log into

Saturday by the $50,000 to-win Kings Royal. A total of nine former Kings Royal winners will be taking part in the event, including five who are competing full-time with the Word of Outlaws this season. Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, leads all drivers with six wins in the Kings Royal, while Jac Haudenschild has won the event on three occasions, with Donny Schatz and Joey Saldana scoring two wins apiece, while Jason Sides won the event in 2004.
Craig Dollansky, Driver of the No. 7 Big Game Treestands Maxim:
“You always look forward to races like the Kings Royal. We were strong last time we were there and lost a tire toward the end of the race. I was pretty happy with our race car there and we were second quick, so we'll go in there with a good race car and try to get ourselves in the hunt to win the Kings Royal. There is a lot of history at Eldora and the Kings Royal is one of the crown jewels of the sport. It's one that has eluded me in my career and we'll go in there with everything we have and see if we can get a win there with the Big Game Treestands car.”
Brian Ellenberger, Driver of the No. 22 Ti-22 Performance JEI:
“That's a great race with a lot of history there. It's certainly one of the biggest races of the year and we are looking forward to it. We're looking forward to getting back to Eldora and running that race. You can tell by the size of the crowd what an important race it is. That's one of the races that brings in a lot of people and everything that surrounds it is great. It's a neat event all the way around and we're glad to be able to take part in it.”
Ben Gregg, Driver of the No. 2B Kronik Energy Maxim:
“I've been going to that event since it started. I was at the first one and have been back there for a lot since. It's always nice to go there and it's great to get to run there in that event. We always have a good time going back to Eldora. We haven't been very good there and we're hoping to change that this time around. We'll have a new motor that we'll probably roll out there for that event and hopefully that will change things.”
Sam Hafertepe Jr., Driver of the No. 15H G.H. Plumbing Maxim:
“We always look forward to the Kings Royal and going to Eldora. It's a big fast place and we do well at big fast places. We're definitely looking forward to getting back there and hopefully finishing a couple spots better than last year. It would be a huge accomplishment for our team to win it. We haven't won a World of Outlaws race yet and have come close several times. To win an event that prestigious would be great. I don't even know if words could describe the feeling of what it would mean to win the Kings Royal.”
Jac Haudenschild, Driver of the No. R19 Owens-Corning Fiberglass XXX:
“We like going to Eldora. It's always a fast track and always good racing. If you get the car going good there it's a fun place to race at. The money is the best part, but it's a big race and a hard race to win. We're looking forward to hopefully getting the (No.) R19 up front. It's always special to win a big race like that. It means a lot to the car owner and the crew and everybody.”
World of Outlaws Fast Talkers: Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway
Rossburg, OH-July 14, 2010- Prior to heading to the famed legendary Eldora Speedway in Ohio to take part in the Kings Royal, each of the 16 drivers competing full-time with the World of Outlaws, shared their thoughts on the famed event. The weekend will begin on Friday, July 16 with the Knight Before the Kings Royal, followed on
Chad Kemenah: Driver of the No. 63 Golden Flavor Sesame Sticks Maxim:
“Anytime we can go to Eldora is a good thing. First because it's close to home and second because we like the place. The Kings Royal just puts a lot more emphasis on everything. The history of event is pretty neat and that brings more fans to it. It's a really neat weekend and when the Kings Royal gets here, you know you are in the “Month of Money.” Eldora kicks all of that off and you want to always do good over there.”
Kraig Kinser, Driver of the No. 11K Quaker State Maxim:
“The Kings Royal is one of the biggest races we run and everyone wants to run up front in it. Everyone wants to wear that crown at the end of the night. I've had some good runs there and some bad runs at Eldora, so hopefully we have some good momentum going there hopefully we have a chance of winning the race when the feature comes around. Just getting any win at Eldora is big for me. I've gotten to go over and see a lot of great races there. They used to run The Historical Big One and obviously the Kings Royal and just a lot of big races just in our sprint cars. Talking about dirt racing, there has been so many great races there in so many different types of race cars that run on dirt. Putting your name on a win list at a track like that is something very, very special.”
Steve Kinser, Driver of the No. 11 Bass Pro Shops Maxim:
“We always look forward to the Kings Royal. We have run it for a number of years and it's always a special race. It's one of the biggest races of the year and I always enjoy racing at Eldora anyway. I'm looking forward to it. Most of us race drivers would race for nothing to win the Kings Royal, but the money is good for sure and you need that to keep going up and down the road. It definitely is a race you want to try to win.”
Danny Lasoski, Driver of the No. 6 Casey's General Store JEI:
“We always look forward to the big races. You know how our luck is at Eldora. We either do really good or really bad. Last time we were there, we finished second, so we are pumped up and looking forward to going there and see if we can win the Kings Royal. It would mean everything to win that. We've been fortunate to win the Knoxville Nationals and the Kings Royal is one of those races that has eluded us. We've run second before and that's one we'd really like to add to our resume.”
Toni Lutar, Driver of the No. 4X Northwest Used Auto Parts KPC:
“That's one of the big ones and a good race to get to. We came pretty close to making the main event last year, so hopefully we can make it this year. The race goes back a long way and there is so much history at the track itself that all of that certainly add to the prestige and aura of the race. It's definitely one everyone looks forward to and they have some great fans out there.”
Paul McMahan, Driver of the No. 91 Great Clips Maxim:
“You always look to the events like that that pay a lot of money. We have a lot of big races coming up in July and August and the Kings Royal starts that off. That is a very prestigious race and everyone wants to win it. There have only been about eight or 10 guys that have won the Kings Royal, so to put your name on that list would be a feature in your cap. Anytime you can go back somewhere with a win in the same season helps. The race track will be a lot different. It's a lot hotter out now and the track will be a lot slicker. It all depends on that qualifying time that you put down on your first lap of the night. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.”
Jason Meyers, Driver of the No. 14 GLR Investments KPC
“Obviously it's a big paying race, so it's a race that is important to all of us. Eldora is a great facility and we always look forward to going over there. We've come close to winning that a couple of times, but it seems to be one that keeps eluding us. We're looking forward to going back and trying to get it this year. It's one of those races that you want to put your name on at some point. It's very important to us and something we want to get done and hopefully this is the year. Wearing the crown is the most important part. The money is here today and gone tomorrow. To wear that crowd and get your name on that winners list is the most important and something that can never be taken away.”
Joey Saldana, Driver of the No. 9 Budweiser Maxim:
“There's a pretty small group of guys that have won it and it's a pretty elite group. For myself, when I got it, I started to realize that this was a place that I belong and I can race with guys like Steve Kinser and Jac Haudenschild and Dave Blaney. It's a career changing race to win, that's for sure. It's something you shoot for and it's something people don't forget about if you do win it. As a sprint car driver it's one of the biggest races you can win and one of the biggest of the year. I always look forward to it and it's a show that you can focus on going out and winning because it's just “Show-up point” so you don't have to worry about points. You can go all out trying to win the race and it's great that they let us do that.”
Donny Schatz, Driver of the No. 15 Armor All/STP J&J:
“Eldora is one of our favorite places to go and we look forward to getting there. It starts the “Month of Money,” so there are a lot of big races that follow it. We'll try to get the big check and the big trophy. It's probably had more prestige because of the guys that have won it. Steve (Kinser) has won it so many times, along with (Doug) Wolfgang and Sammy (Swindell). There has been a lot of great guys that have won the race. It's the only one you get a crown and a robe for, so that's pretty neat. It does pay pretty well also, so you take all of that into consideration and just enjoy it. If you don't win it, it definitely makes for a long rest of the season and we don't want to be in that position. We want to be up there fighting for it and hopefully get that crown and purple robe.”
Jason Sides, Driver of the No. 7S Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim:
“That was my first World of Outlaws win and to win the Kings Royal was pretty big for us. It was on my mom's birthday as well which made it special. Her birthday is coming around again this year and we'll see if we can win it again for her. It's prestigious for sure and to me, it's kind of like winning five races at once. It's a big payday and helps our small team. We have the crown at home, along with the trophy and the big check hanging on the wall. It's something we look at from time to time and think, 'We did win that.' It was a big win for us.”
Lucas Wolfe, Driver of the No. 5W Allebach Racing Maxim:
“It's always one of the biggest races of the year and a great weekend. Hopefully we'll be able to have a good run. We had a second-place run there earlier this season so hopefully we'll be able to go back and repeat some of that success and hopefully improve one spot. You look at the list of names that has won the Kings Royal and it's basically a “Who's Who” of all of sprint car racing pretty much since it's started. It's one of those events you look forward to all year and it has quite a bit of history to it as well.”

Though it will be his first time on the eleven turn temporary street circuit in Toronto that is surrounded by concrete barriers Whissell looks forward to the challenge. “I've raced at Trois Rivieres so I understand the walls around you” said the driver. “I've also watched some video of old CASCAR series races to help get a feel of what to expect” he added.
This weekend's race will also be broadcast live on TSN and TSN HD, a first for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. “I think everyone is very excited about this event being live from coast to coast” said Whissell. “It really shows that NASCAR has grown this series very quickly and the demand is there to see the races live” he added.
The #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford team is raising funds for research into a cure for Multiple Sclerosis this season. Support of that cause also goes beyond the race team explained the driver. “Each year Whissell Contracting holds a BBQ for employees and their families. This year we set up a dunk tank and the proceeds raised are also going to help MS research” explained Jarred Whissell.
Whissell not only set up the dunk tank, but participated. “Yes I got dunked a few times and even though the temperature was about 17C it was worth it” smiled Whissell. “I also have to thank the three companies that matched all the money we raised for MS, Lafarge, Renfrew Insurance and Mike Vail Trucking. It helped bring our total to $900 and of course half of our winnings this weekend also go to the cause. Fans can go to our website

to help out too” he added.
The five NASCAR Canadian Tire Series road course events are a part of some of the largest race weekends in Canada and also include the Toronto & Edmonton Indy's and Montreal Nationwide race weekend. CALGARY'S JARRAD WHISSELL READY TO RACE ON THE STREETS IN TORONTO
July 14, 2010. It's been one month since Calgary's Jarrad Whissell and the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford team last competed in the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. But since then the excitement has been building for their debut on the streets of Exhibition Place this Saturday afternoon during the Toronto Indy weekend.
This is the first time the NASCAR Canadian Tire series has been part of the schedule at the Toronto Indy and Whissell is excited to participate in the inaugural event. “This race weekend has a great history and the track layout should make for very exciting racing” said the driver. “The long Lakeshore straightaway leading into the tight right hand turn three will be especially interesting to watch” he added.
The month long layoff has allowed the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford team the opportunity to repair their damaged race car from the last event. “We had some trouble at the last event” explained Whissell. “I got the car out of shape, we went off course and touched the wall, but the real problem was a small fire that occurred. Not only did we have to replace parts but all of the wires along with all the plastic and rubber pieces have been replaced as a precaution” he concluded.
Despite the setback Whissell is optimistic about this weekend. “Bill Burns did a great job putting the car back together and before we had our troubles the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford was fast and very well balanced. We'll definitely be good right from the start this weekend” said the enthusiastic driver.
No. 88 Blueharbor Bank Chevrolet/No. 7 Go Daddy Chevrolet
EVENT - Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 (200 laps / 250 miles)
TRACK - Gateway Int'l Raceway (1.25-mile oval)
DATE - Saturday, July 17, 2010
TV / RADIO - ESPN2 (coverage begins at 8:00 p.m. EST) / MRN (broadcast begins at 7:30 p.m. EST)
Steve Arpin
No. 88 Blueharbor Bank Chevrolet
You've driven the No. 7 this year but not the flagship No. 88. What are your thoughts leading into the weekend?
"This is one of those situations where an opportunity fell into my lap. As important as everything in the ARCA series is to us, the long-term plan is to make the most of this JR Motorsports, and it's a great one. I think everyone knows how bad I want to win an ARCA championship, but it's not every day you get a chance to drive multiple races for Dale Earnhardt Jr. This is a cool experience for me.”
What do you think the biggest difference will be between running the 7 and the 88?
“Everyone at JRM has been great to work with over the past few months. Tony Eury Jr. has been an awesome coach and mentor for me at the racetrack. But this week we're going to change it up a bit with me driving the 88 car. I'm really excited to work with Pops [Tony Eury, Sr.]. I've thrown a lot of questions at Pops over the past few months. He's always willing to give me some helpful advice. I think it will be a fairly simple transition because I've spent a lot of time on the road and in the shop with both the 7 and 88 guys. So I know all of them, and I don't think too much will change besides the car number."
Josh Wise
No. 7 Go Daddy Chevrolet
What's your experience level at a track like Gateway?
“Gateway is a fun track for me. I've raced a lot of things there, Nationwide, Truck and ARCA. It's a unique track and one that I enjoy. You've got to slow down a lot getting into turn one, and since we don't down shift there anymore, the motor bogs down coming off the corner. You'll see a lot of guys trying to be the first to get back on the throttle. If you can get on the throttle really quick coming off of two it gives you a huge advantage at that place. The sooner you can throttle up the better.”
In your eyes, what constitutes good weekend in the Go Daddy Chevrolet?
“This Go Daddy team is definitely capable of winning races. This is my first time running the Go Daddy paint scheme and I'm excited about that. I think realistically, a top-10 finish is a great place to start. I want to take each practice session, qualifying lap and race lap and run to my full potential and give Tony Jr. the best feedback I can. If everyone one this team gives 110 percent, we can be satisfied no matter what the result is.”

JR MOTORSPORTS TEAM PREVIEW
Zonda R Pagani: the fastest car in the world with Pirelli P Zero Slick
Pagani Zonda R set a new record on the Nordschleife circuit in Nürburgring covering the 20.83km in 6'47", with Pirelli P Zero Slick tyres (measuring 265/645-19TL, 325/705-20TL).
The Zonda R beat a record set a few months ago by another extreme supercar with a competitor's tyres.
The record was made possible by the Pirelli P Zero Slick tyres made from the solutions, profiles and materials typical of Pirelli's Motorsport Racing production, ensuring excellent grip on the asphalt and ability to transfer all the power of the car onto the ground. Designed exclusively by Pirelli for the Modena-built supercar, the P Zero Slick tyres were manufactured in Milan on the new generation line of Mirs, the innovative robotized production process patented by Pirelli, covering the entire manufacturing cycle from compounds to the finished product, without interruptions or energy wasted. The Mirs process is representative of Pirelli's excellence in technology, and focuses on production of Ultra High Performance and Motorsport tyres.
Other factors that contributed to the high-performance grip can be linked to a 200 kg weight reduction of the Zonda R compared with the road version, with its carbon-titanium chassis, lighter suspensions, low centre of gravity, polar inertia reduction and excellent aerodynamic load.See:

Pennzoil and NGK Spark Plugs Bicknell car up the road to the Brockville Ontario Speedway. In his qualifying heat, Dylan started from the back, and ripped through the field, finishing third, but racing side by side for second at the checkered flag. In the 20 lap feature, Evoy lined up from the twelfth position and began his usual charge to the front. By lap 15, Evoy had cracked the top five, and continued to progress in the remaining ten laps. At the checkered flag, Evoy finished in fourth place.
“The car was real good tonight, we are definitely going in the right direction with the changes that we are making on the car”, said Dylan after the race. “Hopefully we can continue to improve and pick up a couple of wins in the second half of the season”.
On Sunday, the Evoy team worked hard on getting the car cleaned up, put a new body on the car for the 10th annual Merrickville Cruise And Shop Car Show in Merrickville, Ontario.

Rain Keeps Evoy at Home on Friday Night; Another Top Five at the BOS

July 13, 2010
Over the last few weeks, the only thing that seems to slow down Dylan Evoy and his Brockville, Ontario based Evoy Racing team is Mother Nature. Once again, she let Mohawk Raceway, and most other Friday night tracks in the area know that she could strike at any time.
With the night off, the Evoy team went over their 2008 Bicknell car, getting it set up for their tricky home track, Brockville Ontario Speedway for the following night, hoping to make the car just a little bit better, and get to victory lane.
On Saturday night the team took their Ogilvie's Auto & Fleet Service, Fireball Performance Automatics, Nan's Kitchen, RONA, Robotic & Process Automation, Subway, Linde, Unity Savings, RipNET, Charleston Lake Auto Service, Canadian Tire, Thousand Islands Concrete,
1000 Islands RV, Pat's Radiator, 103.7 BOB FM, Jackson's Landscaping & Property Maintenance, Murdock's Cement Finishing, Stover Bus Lines, Kendrick Racing team prepared Bicknell car. At the checkered flag, O'Brien finished in the sixth position. In the 30-lap feature, O'Brien started from the 14th position, and quickly worked his way to the front. In just a few short laps, O'Brien had already moved inside the top ten, and with a caution on lap 17, the four time defending track champion was up to seventh. On the ensuing restart, Danny jumped to the outside lane on the track, and begin challenging for a top five almost immediately. After over taking fifth place on lap 22, O'Brien wasn't done yet, as he soon was up to fourth, and then in the closing laps he had moved into third, and that is where he finished.
“The car was really good again tonight. This team has really worked hard getting us back up front”, stated O'Brien after the race. “The competition is so much tougher then previous seasons, but we working hard to get back to victory lane”.
On Sunday night at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, a 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series highlighted the evening. After posting the 17th fastest speed in time trials, O'Brien and his team had a little work to do before the qualifying heats. Danny lined up fifth in his heat, and moved up just one spot to fourth at the checkered flag. The fourth place finish was good enough to lock him into the 100-lap feature event. Starting from the 15th position, O'Brien had his work cut out for him against the powerful Big Blocks. In the early laps, Danny maintained his position, but when the halfway point of the race was looming, O'Brien's Global Warranty Bicknell began to come to life. At lap 37, he was running 14th, and on lap 49 he was just outside of the top ten, running in 11th. O'Brien made it all the way up to the tenth position before mechanical problems sideline him for the rest of the night on lap 80.
“It was a tough race tonight, but we knew it wasn't going to be easy racing against these Big Blocks”, stated O'Brien. “We will take it home and get ready for Can Am tomorrow night”.
At Chapman's Can Am Motorsports Park on Monday night, a special SUNY Canton Series event was scheduled. Despite a brief downpour, and some intermittent rain, they were still able to get the race completed. A draw at the pit gate determined starting positions for the qualifying heats, and this gave O'Brien a fifth place starting position. O'Brien worked through the field with just eight laps, and advanced to third. Danny started the 30 lap feature from ninth place, and quickly advanced through the field in the early going. On lap eight, O'Brien was up to sixth and just five laps later O'Brien was into the top five. The handle seemed to go away in the closing laps as he slipped to sixth at the finish.
This coming weekend, O'Brien will be back at the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night for a regular show, as well as autograph night, and then off to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday.

MODIFIED SUPER DIRTcar SERIES: BIG-BLOCK BLAST
The plan was to travel into Quebec and race at Autodrome Granby. It would have been a chance to gain valuable seat time at a track that Whitteker will once again visit on September 10th for the 358 Modifieds DIRTcar Series. Rain for much of the day kept the team at their Iroquois, Ontario home.
Sunday night was a Big Block Super DIRTcar Series event at Cornwall Speedway, and time trials determined the starting line up for the qualifying heat races. Whitteker turned the fourth fastest time in his group, and the tenth fastest time overall, turning lap times higher then many of the more powerful Big Blocks. In fact, Whitteker posted a fast lap that was faster then all other Cornwall Speedway regulars. In his qualifying heat, Whitteker line up from the fourth position, but the car had developed a major push, and the car wouldn't turn the corner as good as it did in time trials. Whitteker finished seventh in his heat race, placing him in the last chance consolation race.
Whitteker started the last chance race from the second position and maintained that position throughout the race, earning him the 24th starting position for the 100-lap race. The car was fast early on, as Whitteker moved through the field at a blistering pace. Just four laps in, Whitteker had moved inside the top 20, by lap 16 he was up to 16th place and on the back bumper of the 15th place car. Whitteker raced for the 15th position for the remainder of the race, and at the checkered flag he finished in 16th place and finished on the lead lap. While 16th place for most teams is a tough day, for Whitteker, it was a great learning experience, and gained some knowledge for the next race.
“We had a really good car early on, but the car was really hard to turn”, said Whitteker after the race. “We will have to change the steering box tomorrow before we get back on the track tomorrow at Can Am”.
After going over the car on Monday morning, and getting the setup changed over for the fast half mile Chapman's Can Am Motorsports Park, the Whitteker's left home and traveled across the border for a special SUNY Canton Series race. Whitteker finished started sixth in his heat race and came through the field to finish second, placing him in the redraw for one of the top 12 spots in the feature. The draw went well for Whitteker as he selected the outside pole for the 30 lap feature. At the green flag, Whitteker fought the handling on the car once again and the front end wanted to push up the track. Whitteker struggled in the early laps falling as low as ninth place before coming to life in the second half of the race. Just past halfway, Whitteker had climbed back to eighth, just a couple laps later he was up to seventh. With just two laps remaining Whitteker had fought back to fifth place, and was clearly one of the fastest cars on the track during the final ten laps.
“We struggled early”, says Whitteker, “In the last half of the race, I was learning how to drive through the tight conditions, and by the end of the race we were going pretty good”.
This coming weekend, Whitteker has some unfinished business left to do in his Rust Check, Coldwell Banker, Steve Summers Coburn Realty, Jim's Performance Plus, Parcoll Products/Napa Auto Parts, Quaker State, Riverside Pontiac, Toy Storage, Wells and Son Construction, ERD Engine Research and Development, and Finish Line Web Design sponsored Bicknell car. With just ten laps into a 30-lap feature a few weeks ago at Edelweiss Speedway, the race was stopped due to curfew issues, and that race will resume this coming Friday night with Whitteker at the front of the pack. Whitteker Gains Valuable Experience Running With DIRTcar Big Blocks
Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design
July 14, 2010
Running extra distance races is something new for Luke Whitteker, only having run just one each at Cornwall and Edelweiss earlier this season. However, running them against the Big Blocks and the stars of the Super DIRTcar Series is something that Whitteker hasn't done, until this past weekend at Cornwall.
The Whitteker Motorsports team had tossed around the idea of visiting a new racetrack on Friday night, as the team wanted to get some experience at other tracks.

Can Hall of Famer Duplicate Past Glory At Wisconsin Track When National Tour Sanctions USA Nationals On Aug. 5-7 For First Time Since 2005?
NEW RICHMOND, WI - July 14, 2010 - Cedar Lake Speedway's deep history with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will be rekindled when the national tour returns to the Badger State track to sanction the 23rd annual USA Nationals presented by United States Steel Corporation on Aug. 5-7.
And if Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Billy Moyer ends up battling for the 100-lap event's $50,000 top prize, it will seem just like old times at the high-banked, one-third-mile oval.
Moyer, 52, of Batesville, Ark., owns a spectacular performance record in WoO LMS competition at Cedar Lake, winning seven times and never finishing worse than fifth in the 10 tour A-Mains that have been contested there. All of his victories came in 1988 and 1989 during the short-lived first incarnation of the series run under the direction of late WoO Sprint Car Series founder Ted Johnson, but he was close to another checkered flag in the only Cedar Lake event of the WoO LMS's modern era (2004-present), finishing second in the 2005 USA Nationals.
A three-time WoO LMS champion (1988-89, 2005), Moyer fondly, albeit a bit vaguely, recalls his amazing run of Outlaw success at Cedar Lake some two decades ago. He was beaten just once in five events in 1988 (by current Cedar Lake regular and perennial titlist Rick Egersdorf of Lake Elmo, Minn.) and once in four events in 1989 (by Donnie Moran of Dresden, Ohio). Moyer capped both years with triumphs in the first two USA Nationals - then 50-lap features worth $12,000 to win in '88 and $14,000 in '89 - on his way to an alltime event-record five victories.
“It seemed like we had a handle on the place back in the day,” said Moyer, who also won the USA Nationals in 1990, 1992 and 1993 when it carried sanctioning from DIRTcar Racing's UMP circuit. “There were a lot of good racers from out that way back then that everybody might not have heard of - guys like Willy Kraft - but I think we were a step ahead of a lot of them with how we done our tires and our chassis.
“You could keep an advantage a little longer in those days, and I guess I just had some things I understood about the car that I kept to myself. Today, with all the chassis builders involved, they pass all this information on to all their customers and it's harder to hold on to an edge like we did when we were winning all those races every year (at Cedar Lake).”
Moyer's Cedar Lake strength in 1988-89 was an extension of the superiority he demonstrated during the original WoO LMS campaigns. He won 22 of the 41 A-Mains that were run those two years, a lofty win percentage that he would have loved to pad in successive seasons. Unfortunately, Johnson discontinued the series after the 1989 season to focus on his Sprint Car endeavors and it sat idle until resuming in 2004 under the World Racing Group banner.
“I was really surprised when (Johnson) decided to pull the plug,” said Moyer. “I honestly think that if he just held on one more year it would probably be right there where the (WoO) Sprint Cars are right now instead of still growing. Right when he quit doing it there were just a few professional-type racers doing it for a living, but there were getting to be more and more and that would have kept the deal growing without that little empty spot (of 15 years) in there.”
Today the WoO LMS is getting stronger each year, well on its way to realizing the full potential that Moyer saw in it over 20 years ago. The tour's return to Cedar Lake for the USA Nationals - a crown-jewel event that, with its $250,000-plus purse, ranks as the country's highest-paying dirt Late Model race - adds more prestige to a 2010 schedule that currently lists 47 events at 40 tracks in 19 states and two Canadian provinces.
Moyer is expected to enter the blockbuster event as a favorite - not very shocking, of course, considering he's tearing up the dirt Late Model world this season like it's 1989. With 16 overall feature wins through mid-July, Moyer is proving that he hasn't lost anything off the fastball that he flashed at Cedar Lake during the early years of the USA Nationals.
Cedar Lake Speedway's Deep History With World of Outlaws Late Model Series
Has Billy Moyer's Name All Over It
One of Moyer's victories this season came at Cedar Lake, on June 18 in the first half of the 'Masters' weekend doubleheader that was part of the DIRTcar Racing Summer Nationals. That outing made him realize once again how much he likes the speedway.
“The racetrack has always been fun,” said Moyer, who owns 100-lap victories this season in the Dream XVI at Ohio's Eldora Speedway (worth $100,000) and the WoO LMS 'Illini 100' at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway ($20,000). “I think it's sort of the right size for me. I just think a smaller place is a better show for the fans, and it's been one of those places where you have to chase the racetrack around. I like that quality in a racetrack.”
Moyer towed his Victory Circle Chassis to last year's USA Nationals but failed to qualify for the headliner after a B-Main scrape cost him too much valuable ground to make up. He felt he was more a victim of circumstance than performance, however, fueling his desire to return to the Upper Midwest in search of his first USA Nationals victory in 17 years.
“Do we have to run better last year? Yeah,” said Moyer, whose USA Nationals ledger shows only two top-five (second in 2005, fourth in 2008) and four top-10 finishes since his last triumph in the event. “But we were right there with the car last year. We had some crazy stuff happen trying to get in the race, but I think we could've raced OK once we got in the 100 lapper.”
Moyer is among a star-studded group of former USA Nationals winners expected to enter this year's edition, joining Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn. (four-time victor and 2004 WoO LMS titlist), Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis. (1996 and 2009), Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa (2004 and 2007), WoO LMS regular Rick Eckert of York, Pa. (2002) and Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga. (2005).
The field will also include such talents as former WoO LMS champions Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., and Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., and a host of other national, regional and local standouts.
Three nights of action will comprise the 23rd annual USA Nationals presented by United States Steel Corporation, beginning with a full DIRTcar Racing UMP-sanctioned program on Thurs., Aug. 5, topped by a 50-lap A-Main paying $5,000 to win. Time Trials, heat races and a dash for the USA Nationals are scheduled for Fri., Aug. 6, and B-Mains and the 100-lap finale are set for Sat., Aug. 7.
Cedar Lake's weekly NASCAR Late Models will also contest full shows on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and on-track action at 6:30 p.m. each day.
Cedar Lake officials will once again accent the racing with an exciting array of pre- and post-race entertainment, including a Saturday-morning golf scramble at the nearby Pine Meadows Golf Course; a Ladder Ball competition at 12 noon on Saturday; the popular Apple River Tubing expedition; a luncheon on Saturday afternoon that allows 'FansFund' contributors an opportunity to meet the drivers they helped bring to the USA Nationals; a driver autograph/meet-and-greet session prior to Saturday night's first green flag; go-karts in the backstretch parking lot; and the 'Party in the Pits' under the Big White Tent following the Thursday and Friday programs.
Advanced tickets for the USA Nationals are available by calling 612-363-0479 or by visiting
