Danny O'Brien has always had a lot of success racing at Cornwall Speedway over the years, and has won plenty of races, and championships at the track over the course of his career. Arguably none were more dramatic then his win this past weekend.
Sunday night at Cornwall was a great night for Danny O'Brien. Starting the 30-lap feature from the 11th position, O'Brien worked his way through the field. At the halfway point of the race, Danny had moved up to seventh, and just a few laps later he had jumped into the top five. A much needed caution came out on lap 23, bunching the field back up, and by this point O'Brien had advanced into third place, putting himself into contention for the final 7 lap run the checkered flag. Coming down for the checkered flag, O'Brien appeared to have a second place finish, until the race leader destroyed a tire on the final turn, handing the win to O'Brien.
“We have lost races in a similar fashion”, stated O'Brien from victory lane after his win. “It's a tough way for them to lose a race, but we will take it. I want to thank all the crew for their hard work, and all of our sponsors”.
The next race tentatively scheduled for O'Brien and his Global Warranty, 1000 Islands RV, Pat's Radiator, 103.7 BOB FM, Jackson's Landscaping & Property Maintenance, Murdock's Cement Finishing, Stover Bus Lines, Kendrick Racing team will be next Sunday night at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.

O'Brien Picks Up Second Win of the Season at Cornwall Motor Speedway

race win on the season. Cole finished second with Atkinson, Keill and #58 Dan Cairns rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Cole and Wilson.
A caution free Stock 4 feature race ended with a finish that left many confused. After taking an early lead, #35 Tim Tolton built up nearly a full straightaway advantage. Working through the pack, #75 Scott Mast of Cambridge was able to secure the second spot and began his pusuit of the leader. Mast would catch Tolton on two separate occasions. The first saw Mast on Tolton's back bumper in turn four but contact with the lapped car of #99 Craig McLean saw Mast drift high in the turn and lose momentum, falling back a few car lengths. The second opportunity came on the last lap and brought the crowd to their feet. After taking the white flag, Mast was all over Tolton as the two made the final trip around the highbanks. Once again, lapped cars would be a factor, as the two dove into the final turn. Trying to get around, and avoid, the lapped car of #86 Matt Clarke, Mast would make contact with Tolton sending him high out of turn four. Mast would clear Clarke and get a run down the front stretch beating Tolton to the checkered flag by half a car length. However, the celebration for Mast was short lived as the win was given to Tolton. Mast was assessed second spot with #51 Clark Hartman, #9 Dennis Cremasco and #28 Luke Freeman rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Cremasco, Hartman, Tolton and #88 Billy Lovell.
The Late Model feature turned into a runaway win for #12 Justin McLellan. While he did not lead every lap, McLellan would survive a few caution flags and eventually find himself restarting from the front row. McLellan then proceeded to leave the rest of the field in his wake as the battled for positions two on back kept him comfortably alone. In the late stages of the race, second place was on the minds of both #09 Kent Nuhn and #81 Chris Van Dusen. The two kept the fans in the action
Race Results - Saturday, July 17, 2010 -- After running a few years in Varney Motor Speedway's Late Model Division, #19 Brian Wilson took the opportunity in 2010 to turn the wheel in the highly competitive Street Stock division. Over the last few years, few have been able to break the stranglehold that the likes of Bill Cole, Gary Atkinson and Jamie Hunt have held on this division but, just past the midway point of the 2010 season, a new contender has emerged from the middle of the pack.
Saturday night's Street Stock feature saw #06 Bill Keill and #3 Gary Atkinson start from the front row. When the green flag dropped, Atkinson wasted little time in claiming the lead as the veteran passed Keill in turn one and charged down the backstretch. As Atkinson began to pull away from the field, a three car battle for second place between Wilson, Cole and Keill appeared to be all the leader would need to build up a lead that could not be overcome. By the midway point of the race however, Atkinson would have company. Running nose-to-tail, Atkinson, Wilson and Cole turned the battle upfront into a three car affair. Heading into the third turn, Wilson made a move to pass Atkinson and Cole (electing to stay behind Wilson) followed the Rockwood, Ontario driver past the leader and into the second spot. Atkinson would start to fade in the closing stages but, the race for the lead was thriloling to say the least as Cole tried every groove and every line to try and get by Wilson. Able to get along side Wilson on a few different occasions, Wilson was always there to slam the door shut and Cole could not make the pass. Cole would take one more shot on the white flag lap but, Wilson would hang on for another feature

with white-knuckled door-to-door action for several laps. In the end, McLellan notched another win with Nuhn, Van Dusen, #98 Stve Smith adn #85 Jeff Lotspeich rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Lotspeich and Nuhn. The Super Street Stocks continue to draw pathetic numbers and, allowed to run at the back of the Late Model feature, It was #61 Chad Eden picking up the win.
The All Pro Modified feature race saw #27 Les Eccles start on the pole with #4 Brian McLean, substitute driving for son Aaron on, the outside. McLean took the lead exiting turn two on the opening lap and #65 Chris Burrows followed through into second. McLean then hit cruise-control enroute to leading every lap and picking up the win. Trying to make a race out if, #1 Ted Patterson closed in late but, settled for second. Burrows, #34 Terry Pardy and #95 Robert Warnes rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Pardy and Patterson.
The trains were back on the Highbanks complete with a feature race roll-over that thrilled the capacity crowd. Picking up another 2010 feature race win, the Markdale Salvage Crushers emerged victorious.
This coming weekend, the Ontario Pro Challenge Series will try to make their season debut Saturday at Varney Motor Speedway. Their scheduled appearance earlier this summer was cancelled due to rain so the speedy 3/4 scale racers are anxious to crank it up on the newly shaped speedway. As usual, the green flag drops at 7:00 pm. For more information, visit

Oh Canada! Hearn Glad To Be Back Across Border After Granby Series Win

following his eighth Big-Block tour triumph at Granby, where he also scored a Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series victory in 2003. The 'Corporate Jet' has now more than double his opposition with 19 Super DIRTcar Series wins recorded on both Ontario and Quebec.
“I've already been up to Granby a couple times and I kind of know what to expect from the track, of course it was little different tonight. I was really worried in the beginning of the race that the car was too good early on. When Dale (Planck) got by me I was worried even more the car was going to get worse as the race went on. Then it came back to me, so you just never know,” said Hearn, won his first Series show of the year at Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway on July 11 to boost his all-time career leading to 19 in Canada.
After pitting for a new shock just shy of the halfway mark in the 100-lap Modified main, Sheppard methodically made his way back through the field to grab second with eight to go, yet ran out of time as traffic thwarted his best effort with just a couple circuits left in the caution-marred affair. Central New York series regulars Tom Sears Jr. and Jimmy Phelps crossed the line next followed by New Jersey traveler Rich Scagliotta, who scored his first-ever Top-5 finish in DIRTcar Northeast's top tour for the mighty Big-Block Modifieds.
The Quebec skies remained overcast much of the afternoon until finally opening for a brief shower that further inundated the speedway grounds. New Granby owner Dominic Lussier, his Assistant General Manager Jean-Francois Tessier and Race Director Erick Baker never deviated from their plan, however, eventually signing in 36 Modifieds and attracting a large crowd for the highly anticipated 'Great Canadian Tour' opener.
Any delay to rework the hallowed half-miler was certainly worth the wait as two-time track points champion Steve Paine (1996-97) shattered his track record in Bilstein Shocks Time Trials. Yet the 'Hurricane' was just one of the 11 drivers to mirror his feat, and it was Planck heading the stellar list after establishing a new single-lap standard of 18.132 sec. (99.272 mph).
When it came time for the customary re-draw among the Top-12 heat race qualifiers, Hearn drew outside front row to join pole-sitter Sears, while Planck filled in eighth on the extended 36-car starting grid. Buckled into the '09 Madsen Motorsports no. 20 Wentworth Custom Homes-Benjamin Moore Paints/TEO ride, Hearn wasted little time jumping out to an early advantage after the first green flag flew. Planck was even quicker in the early-going, pulling into second with 10 laps complete before ducking low in turns three and four to force the first lead change on lap 17.
Reaching as high as sixth-place a quarter way through after leading off 10th in the line-up, Sheppard dropped back to his original position just as fast with 30 laps in the books. When Series points leader Billy Decker suddenly slowed amidst a cloud of smoke in the LJL Racing no. 91 Gypsum Express, 'Super Matt' took the opportunity to turn pitside and stiffen up his shock package for the 50 laps ahead.
Back under green flag conditions, Hearn edged past Planck on a lap 53 restart that was the result of an intentional slowdown by Sheppard in his JB Motorsports no. 9s Xtreme Lubricants/Bicknell entry. Formidable Frenchmen Kayle Robidoux, Drummond promoter Yan Bussiere and David Hebert filled in right behind as Sears and 'The Doctor' Danny Johnson looked for room to operate.
The laps continued to click off at a record pace with Hearn hitting traffic by lap 69 before Planck literally hit the back marker Andre Gauthier to end his night, while collecting Hebert in the turn four jingle. The frontrunners continued o jockey and three-quarters of the way through Hearn paced the lead pack comprised of Bussiere, Sears, Jimmy Phelps, fellow Troyer driver Rich Scagliotta.
Sheppard cracked the front-five past Scagliotta on lap 79, stormed by Bussiere for third on lap 87, then overtook a strong running Sears for second on lap 92. When Hearn got bottled up behind Gauthier and Simon Perreault with just a handful of laps to go, Sheppard quickly zeroed in on Hearn. But after 'Super Matt' suffered the same fate as Hearn moments later, the Sussex, N.J speedster was first in line to score the decisive victory by nearly a straightaway.
“At the end there was really no place to go with the lap cars so I had to take a big chance when I split them on the back straightaway,” noted Hearn, after tacking on his all-time best 105th career Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block victory. “There were just inches between all three of us but I knew they were slowing me down a bunch so I had to get going.”
“Everybody's tired about now. We've been racing a lot, the crews are tired and the equipment's a little tired, so its good to come forward this time of year. That means the crew is working real hard, too,” Hearn added.
Entering round #12 of the Super DIRTcar Series just four points behind Decker, Sheppard loaded up for nearby Autodrome Drummond with a sizeable 55-point margin over the 'Franklin Flyer' who logged his worst finish (30th) in the past dozen races.
“The track was rough early on and I got up on two wheels and almost flipped a few times there,” stated Sheppard, who was looking to make it two in a row following his $10,000 victory Saturday night in the All-Star 100 series showdown at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. So then I started settling down and when I finally had enough, pitted to put on another (stiffer) shock. It was little better so I was able to drive back to the front.”
“Figured we would get back at least to where we were (10th) so we really weren't going to lose anything. Didn't think we get all the way up to second but I know we had a fast enough car to win it. Just ran out of time, maybe a caution or something, think we could've run with Brett … glad we did switch shocks when we did,” Sheppard said.
Proving his victory in the second segment of All-Star Weekend was no fluke, Sears put the Summit Auto Group no. 62s Mullen Industrial-Trackman Equipment/Bicknell mount in for another Top-3, running as high as second with less than 10 to circuits to cover.
“We've been running pretty good lately and I knew that if we got a good starting spot we could stay near the front,” said Sears, 39, who suffered through the loss of his car owner Jerry Faye's wife on Saturday. “I'm pretty familiar with those top tour guys and have enough experience now in these 100-lappers. We've been running good and hopefully we'll continue to get better.”
“This is our first time going to all the Series shows so we'll be at a lot of tracks for the first time. Granby is a real nice facility and I'm looking forward to Drummond tomorrow, only been there once before but didn't race too much.”
“Our goal is still to finish in the Top-10 in points, get some Top-5 finishes and maybe pick up a feature win along the way. We're almost there now, all we have to do is get that first checkrered flag and we'll be in great shape,” added Sears, a regular weekly competitor at sister tracks Brewerton and Fulton speedways.
Super DIRTcar Series teams are ready to contend in the second half of the 'Great Canadian Tour' with the Autodrome Drummond hosting round two across town in the Canadian province of Quebec on Tuesday.

Granby, QUE - July 19, 2010 - The Super DIRTcar Series has ventured across the Canadian border twice this season. Record seven-time and defending overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified champion Brett Hearn wouldn't mind if every tour race provided him with such a profitable exchange rate.
Hearn added to his remarkable resume in the province of Quebec on Monday, winning a duel with Dale Planck during the first half of the 15th Annual Fromagerie Qualite Summum 100' at Autodrome Granby, then outdistancing Matt Sheppard after his tenacious charge to the front to collect the $6,000 first-place prize.
“Some tracks suit me better than others,” remarked Hearn, 51,

It may have been hot, humid and sticky but those conditions were the perfect compliment to the on-track excitement as Kawartha Speedway hosted the 2010 edition of Fan Appreciation Night - presented by Earl Ireland Auto Sales - Friday, July 16th.
The NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models were the first to take to the 3/8th mile oval for a pair of 10 lap qualifying heats. Chris Morrow and defending track champion Dan McHattie shared the checkered flags. Chad Strawn and 2007 champ Steve Mayhew each made trips to victory lane during the Better Carpet Thunder Car prelims, while Dwight Lavoie and current point leader Mike Nelson shared the first rounds of Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock action.
Semi features were next on the bill as Dwight Brown, Steve Mayhew and Tyler Junkin found their way to the winner's circle following late model, thunder car and mini stock track time. Tim Burke, Dan Price and Daryl Fice made it to the feature race starting grid following their performance in the night's consolation rounds.
A 50 lap Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock feature was the first order of business once the main events headed trackside. Tyler Junkin and Jack Horner paced the field of 27 starters to the green and there were 7 laps complete before the action was slowed for a front stretch jingle with Daryl Fice and Brian Bassett. From the ensuing restart, the capacity crowd was treated to some excellent racing throughout the pack until the yellow was displayed again for a turn 2 mishap between Mason Racine and Neil Hannah with 35 circuits in the books. 'Too' Moroney, who had once enjoyed a healthy half track advantage now had a full field of '4 bangers' glued to his back bumper - and only 15 laps to hold them off. Michael Batchelor's early strong run had been slowed by mechanical woes and Moroney's major competition was now Dwight Lavoie and Mike Nelson. The #2 Honda proved to be 'too' much for his rivals, picking-up his second win of the year. Steven Slot and Tyler Junkin completed the top 5.
The Better Carpet Thunder Cars came to the line nearly 20 strong, with Dave Haywood and Jamie Wagar heading the way. There was solid fender to fender action all through the field and the show was almost caution free. Dan Price spun in turn 4, but the leaders had already taken the white flag. 2008 track champion Willie Reyns came from his 6th starting spot for the win under the yellow and checkered flags, followed by a strong effort from Andy Ford. Chad Strawn, Steve and Norm Mayhew finished-out the fast 5.
The night wrapped-up with the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model main event. Earl Ireland and Cale Bailey brought the 24 starters to the line, but the pace was slowed early as Brandon Mowat and J.P. Josiasse made contact in turn 2. Both drivers were able to continue after quick work by their crews, but the yellow was back a short time later as Bailey, Darragh Moroney, Ryan Kimball, Dan McHattie and Tim Fernandes brought the field to a crawl at the exit of turn 2. McHattie was unable to answer the bell when the green flag reappeared. A final caution period on lap 16 for a spin by Ireland, Dwight Brown and Mowat couldn't delay the inevitable result as Chris Morrow recorded his second 2010 win. His #11 Chevrolet was chased across the line by Larry Jackson, Bryan Mercer, Jamie Horner and Vic Parsons.
Kawartha klips: Brandon Mowat, Vic Parsons and Paul Pierek each made their first starts in the late model division. Mowat was returning after a layoff of a couple of years. Ageless veteran Parsons says he'll be running a limited schedule, while Pierek was shaking-down a former CASCAR Super Series ride after running with the Ontario Legends Series just a week ago...Collin Welsh made it 3-for-3 by winning the Holiday Ford Race for Charity...Track officials continue to scour the schedules looking for a make-up date for the Summer Sizzler that was postponed Friday, July 9th...Friday, July 23rd the Ontario Legends Series will make another stop at the popular Fraserville oval. There will also be a 50 lap invitational event for the thunder car division on the schedule.

• Preble Closes Gap On Rocco For NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Lead
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 20, 2010) - Sloan Henderson celebrated her 18th birthday in historic style Saturday night. She became the first female to win a Late Model feature at Columbus Motor Speedway, the .333-mile asphalt oval in central Ohio which is in its 62nd season.
It still hasn't set in for the Dayton Christian High School senior.
“It's kind of hard to believe,” said Henderson. “For me to be able to win a race there is a huge honor. I'm just very grateful to be the first female to win.
“It was the best birthday ever.”
The win is a culmination of progress for the Franklin, Ohio, driver. She has a pair of seconds and sixth third-place finishes among her 12 top fives and 15 top 10s. She has made 17 starts between Columbus and Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio.
“My car owner, Gary Estes, kept telling me 'keep it in one piece, stay in the top five, and it will come to you,” Henderson said of the win. “It was really weird. Usually I have a ton of butterflies. But I just felt really, really comfortable that night.”
Henderson currently leads the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Ohio state points standings by 26 over Donald Mahaffey Jr. She was the 2009 Rookie of the Year presented by Jostens for Ohio.
NASCAR will crown 25 U.S. state and Canadian provincial champions, continuing a tradition that dates back to the sport's early years. The first NASCAR California state champion was Red Douglas in 1953.

Nebraska's Craig Preble cut 21 points off Keith Rocco's national lead with a three-win weekend. Preble, of Yutan, Neb., took home the checkered flag in the crate dirt Late Model feature Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., and then swept the double features at I-80 Speedway in Omaha, Neb., on Sunday.
Preble, who has 16 wins and 24 top fives in 24 starts, has 747 points.
Rocco, of Wallingford, Conn., has 16 wins, 24 top fives and 30 top 10s in 32 starts for 788 points.
A driver's best 18 results are counted toward their state and national points totals, and the champions are decided on overall points total.
Under the points structure for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the race winner received two points for every car in the event up to 20. Second place received two fewer points, and so-on through the field. Race winners received an additional five bonus points. For example, if there are 20 cars, the winner received 45 points, second gets 38 and third 36. If there are 15 cars, the winner received 35 points, second gets 28 and third, 26.
Rocco did not improve his points total from last week, finishing 20th (Thompson International Speedway) and sixth (Waterford Speedbowl). The third Connecticut track where he runs his asphalt Modified, Stafford Motor Speedway, was rained out.
Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C., who races at Motor Mile in Radford, Va., and South Boston (Va.) Speedway, did not race this past weekend and remains third with 650 points. He has 10 wins, 14 top fives and 17 top 10s in 18 races.
Former national champion Ted Christopher won at Thompson Thursday to move up a spot to fourth with 628 points, followed by Bill Leighton Jr. (610 points), who races against Preble at the two Nebraska tracks.
CE Falk III, of Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va., is sixth, followed by Matt Buller of Junction Motor and I-80, Marty Ward of Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway, Woody Pitkat of Thompson and Stafford, and Duane Howard of Grandview Speedway in Bechtesville (Penn.).
For Henderson, her historic evening didn't come without its tribulations.
They tested the car at the track Thursday night, but a starter issue prompted the need for a push truck to get her rolling. In the process, the panard bar bracket broke. Before they could get it fixed, though, she needed the car for some fan appearances and a radio remote.
The crew, however, thrashed and got it fixed in time for Saturday night.
“They work really, really hard and have a lot of dedication,” Henderson said of her team. “I have faith in them, and they were able to get it done. And they were able to get it fast. I'm very blessed for that.”
For the second straight week, Henderson set fast time. She went out and won the four-lap trophy dash among the fastest four qualifiers - after starting fourth - and following an inversion of the top qualifiers for the feature, started sixth.
She quickly gained three spots in the first six laps and ran down race leader Howard Muncy by the 10th lap. After a five-lap battle, Henderson used the outside lane to claim the lead and survived a late-race restart en route to the victory.
“I was just saying to myself, 'hit your marks, stay calm, you can do it,' ” said Henderson. “It was so awesome, I almost didn't know what to do (when I got to Victory Lane). I was so happy.
“It was a perfect moment. Just to have all my guys out there. They work so hard and to see their faces - they were so proud.”
Track, state and provincial champions and the top three finishers in the national standings earn invitations to the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards Banquet. The winner of the national championship will also earn a secure spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.
(Halifax, NS - July 20, 2010) Scotia Speedworld is proud to present AMP Energy night this Friday, July 23rd. Five divisions of racecars will see action under the lights at the 3/10 mile oval, including the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Legends, Sportsman and the Tirecraft Thunder and Lightning cars. Heat races to determine the qualifying order for each feature will begin at 7:00 pm. Features are expected to get underway by 8:00 pm. In addition to seeing some fierce action on the track fans will also have an opportunity to win some great prizes courtesy of Pepsi!
Last week the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero's had company visiting from out of town, three Bandolero cars made the trip from Fredericton to join our Bandolero regulars for a 20 lap feature. However, the pleasantries were set aside when racing began as Emily Meehan (Rawdon) and Cole Butcher (Porters Lake) were the cars to beat on this night. Butcher took home his third win of the season and Meehan ended up second when the checkers flew. Meehan continues to hold top spot in the point standings but Butcher is making up ground and sits only one point behind Miss Rawdon Rocket.
The Legends and Sportsman divisions were off last week; most teams took advantage of their off week and traveled to Riverside International Speedway for some action at 1/3 mile high banked oval located just outside of James River NS. Legends Weekly Racing Series regulars Cy Harvey (Enfield) and Steve Pye (Lantz) travelled to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina to compete in the Legends Millions race. Both divisions return to Scotia this Friday as the battle for the championship resumes.
The best four cylinder cars in Atlantic Canada got to show their stuff last Friday night as the Tirecraft Thunder and Lightning cars saw 50 laps of action on Twins Night. The Thunder car race was slowed by several cautions, when the dust finally settled Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) took home his second victory of the season and became the first two-time winner of 2010 in the division. The Tirecraft Lightning cars also enjoyed their 50 lap event, all but Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside) perhaps who was schooling the field before the lights literally went out in his #144 machine just moments before the end of the main feature. Nick Hurshman pounced on Smith's misfortune as he took the victory on a big night for all the four cylinders.
Can Dave Matthews three-peat or will the Thunders see a second two time winner? Can Russell Smith Jr find redemption and steal back a win? Join us under the lights Friday night to find out!
Admission for the Weekly Racing Series is $12.00 for adults; $2.00 for youth aged 8-15; children 7 and under are admitted free. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $15.00 and restricted to those 16 and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. As most of you know, we are off this weekend, no racing on Saturday. THERE IS PRACTICE ON THURSDAY THIS WEEK.....HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.....
NEXT WEEK......
Many of you have asked about a weekday race, and we will try that next week, not this week, next THURSDAY, JULY 29TH.
PLEASE, I ASK ALL OF YOU TO SIMPLY TAKE A MINUTE AND REPLY IF YOU WILL MAKE IT NEXT THURSDAY. FROM THE DRIVERS MEETING MOST RAISED THEIR HANDS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE A WEEKDAY RACE, SO WE ARE GOING TO TRY ONE NEXT WEEK.
PLEASE JUST LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON COMING OUT NEXT THURSDAY NIGHT. JUST A QUICK EMAIL YES OR NO IS ALL WE NEED.
THAT BEING SAID, WE WILL STILL RUN OUR REGULAR RACES ON JULY 31 SATURDAY, TWO RACES AS SCHEDULED.
FOR NEXT THURSDAY WE ARE ANTICIPATING A START TIME OF 6:30 PM, BUT WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU IF THIS IS TOO EARLY OR NOT....PLEASE LET US KNOW.
WE WILL REVERT BACK TO THE 9:00 AM START TIME FOR NEXT SATURDAYS DOUBLE RACE DAY.
SUNSET SPEEDWAY
Thanks to all who made it out to Sunset Speedway. Normally the race night is not that long, but they put on a good race, too bad Josh got knocked out on the first lap. It was a good night out and I hoped you enjoyed it.
PODIUMS
The podiums seemed to be a big hit last week, with the prizes. I am hoping to get more stuff by next thursday's race so we can always have a podium celbration of our class winners.
Thanks to 400Market for providing addional prizes.....on this off weekend, you should take a run out to the 400 Market, they have some cool stuff there.
NEW MEMBERS
We are still welcoming new members, so if any of you have some friends who might want to join us, just have them give me a call or email me.
Thanks and have a good off weekend....after you come to practice of course.
Regards Russ Bond

Sarver, PA-July 20, 2010- Lance Dewease and Joey Saldana won the battles on Tuesday night at Lernerville Speedway in the Twin 30's, while it was Donny Schatz, who won the war, claiming the overall title in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup before a very large crowd at the historic high-banked four-tenths-mile. Schatz won the Silver Cup in 2006 and 2007, making him just the third driver to win the Silver Cup three times.
For Dewease, the win marked his first at Lernerville Speedway, while for Saldana it was his second career triumph at the track. Dewease made his debut at Lernerville in 1988 and had made nearly 30 starts at the track entering the Silver Cup, with his previous best finish being a runner-up performance with the World of Outlaws in 2003. The $15,000 win made Dewease the 14th different driver to score a victory in a main event with the World of Outlaws this season and was the sixth of his career with the series.
"I'm so happy to finally win at Lernerville," shared Dewease. "Don Martin was one of the best promoter's ever and to win his race means a lot to me. We always enjoy coming over and have had some good runs before and some not so good. I'm just proud of my entire team. This feels great."
Saldana's win, also earned him $15,000, and was his series leading 10th of the season and the 69th of his career, putting him just one victory shy of becoming the eighth driver all-time to win at least 70 A-Feature events.
"I'll take it," said Saldana in Victory Lane. "We started fourth and got the win. This is a track we have usually struggled at and to have two decent runs was pretty good. We should have had a Top-Five in the first one and got spun out and came back to 11th."
Schatz used a runner-up finish in the first Twin-30 coupled with a fourth-place effort in the finale, coming from the 13th starting spot to claim the overall event title, which went to the driver that had the best average finish in the two features. The four-time and defending series champion was one of just two drivers that finished in the Top-Five in both events, with Jason Meyers being the other. Schatz started 13th in the second race and charged into the Top-Five by the 12th lap of the 30-lap contest. He earned the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award in the finale.
"It's always special to win anything out here, whether it's a race or a title or an event title like this tonight," noted the North Dakota native. "It's good to know that we were in contention in both race and able to run strong enough in them to pick this up. We always enjoy coming to Lernerville and usually run pretty decent here as well."
Dewease started fourth on Tuesday night in the first Twin-30 aboard the Advanced Development Services Maxim and jumped into second on the opening lap, following a yellow and a red flag that led to two complete restarts to open the race. After pole sitter Dale Blaney opened an early lead, Dewease tracked him back down as the pair was in heavy lapped traffic on the eighth circuit. He took the lead for the first time on the 11th lap, diving under Blaney coming off turn four. Blaney charged back by on the very next lap on the high side of turn four to reclaim the top spot.
On the 24th lap Dewease again used the low side of turn four to get by Blaney for the lead and ultimately the win. Blaney would end up pulling off the track while running second with two laps to go after running out of fuel. Dewease began the night by turning the quickest lap of the 38 cars that to the speedway.
"We could run all over the place in the first feature," explained Dewease. "We started running the middle and shortened up the track on Dale (Blaney) a bit and was really able to get off (the corner). We passed him three different times and that didn't last because the caution came out put him in front of me. He's a very good competitor and gets going good when it gets slick. I'm just happy we had a good race car all night."
The final two laps of the race saw a red flag and four cautions, with two consecutive green flag laps needed by way of rules to end the race, thus extending it to 32 circuits. Donny Schatz used a strong restart on the third-to-last restart to get around Jason Sides for second. He would finish in the runner-up position in the Armor All/STP J&J.
Sides ended up third in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim, with Paul McMahan fourth in the Great Clips Maxim. Jason Meyers came from 11 th to finish fifth in the GLR Investments KPC, with Craig Dollansky sixth in the Big Game Treestands Maxim. Sam Hafertepe Jr. was seventh in the Lone Star Speedway Maxim, with Danny Lasoski eighth, piloting the Casey's General Stores JEI. Sammy Swindell was ninth in the Big Game Treestands Maxim with Tim Shaffer rounding out the Top-10 aboard the Kistler Engines J&J.
The second Twin-30 saw Tyler Walked lead the first five laps from the drop of the green, before he spun on the sixth lap. Brian Ellenberger restarted on the pole, with Saldana diving under him entering turn one. The current World of Outlaws point leader, who earned the Goodyear Mid-season championship on Tuesday night, would lead the remainder of the 30-lapper. He chose the high side each and every time on the four double file restarts that ensued while he was out front in the Budweiser Maxim.
"We tightened the car up quite a bit from the first one and were still quite a bit loose," Saldana said after winning the finale. "We just worked on the car and got a good result. The crew worked hard as always."
Craig Dollansky came home second in the finale, with Meyers third, Schatz fourth and McMahan fifth. Jason Sides was sixth with Sammy Swindell one spot behind him. Sam Hafertepe Jr. was eighth in the second Twin-30 to score his second Top-10 finish of the night, with Dewease ninth and Kraig Kinser rounding out the Top-10 in the Quaker State Maxim.
The World of Outlaws return to action on Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24 at Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania for the Summer Nationals, which will pay $20,000 to win the finale.

who has been racking up DIRTcar Modified wins since 1979 and his latest elevated his series count to 67, which keeps him second all-time behind only Hearn. “I'm just a lucky individual to be here. I know I'm fortunate to be here so I'm just going to enjoy it while I'm here.”
“It's great getting back to victory lane, definitely a confidence builder. The team has been working really hard getting the car better each time out. As long as we stick together we'll continue to grow and get better I believe,” said Johnson, whose last Series triumph came at Orange County Fair Speedway teamed with Mike Petruska and his no. 66 Atlas Paving/TEO Pro Car in the 2008 Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Eastern States 200 in Middletown.
Johnson was back aboard a familiar orange no. 27J ride in his latest victory march, this year owned by Mike Payne and carrying sponsorship from Honeoye Auto Parts, Currier Plastics and Waste Management on the potent Bicknell machine. Following in his tire tracks at the end of the century grind were hard-charging Phelps, Planck, Hearn, Sheppard, Decker and top French finisher Marin Roy, who claimed guaranteed starting status during Super DIRT Week in Syracuse for both Big-Block and 358-Modified main events held Oct. 9-10.
Pole-sitter Planck and Johnson shared front row starting assignments to lead off the 100-lap finale which was caution-stricken on the opening lap. Racing track promoter Yan Bussiere, who earlier in the night set Bilstein Shocks Fast Time, got caught up high and wound up parked on the turn three wall, a precarious position that required 10 minutes to alleviate.
Planck retained his edge on the ensuing lap nine restart, with Johnson, French favorite David Hebert, Hearn and Billy Dunn locked in pursuit. It took the 'Natural' just eight more circuits to catch the tail end of the pack as he sped around the fast 4/10-miler steering Carey Terrance's back-up RezX Racing no. 66xx Twin Leaf Express(Ft. Covington)/Bicknell entry.
Only two more yellow flags slowed the action by the midway point with Planck holding a commanding lead in what had been a rather uneventful race up to that point. When Francois Bernier idled down the front chute on lap 49, Planck and Johnson still ran two with Hearn improving to third ahead of Hebert, Sheppard, Decker and Phelps.
Hearn was quickly drop-kicked to fifth when the green flag once again unfurled on the lap 55 restart as Sheppard bolted into third. Ryan Phelps suffered a flat right-rear Hoosier eight circuits later, with his cousin Jimmy holding down fourth-place in what has become a customary move to the front in the latter stages.
The biggest incident of the night forced a red flag situation with 75 laps complete when turn three contact tangled up the cars of tour regulars Billy Dunn and Tom Sears Jr. as well as Gino Clair, Bernier and Bussiere, who was scored some 30 laps down to the leaders at the time. Green lights flashed on once more as 13 racers remained on the lead lap all looking to take their best shot at reaching the winner's circle.
In tracking down Planck prior to the field coming to a stop, Johnson continued to shadow the race-long leader until finally ducking underneath for good as the lead pair swung out of turn four. After Decker's Gypsum Express teammate Larry Wight spun rounding turn one to force out the seventh and final caution flag on lap 83, Johnson faced a clear path ahead as did his closest rivals in search of the $6,000 top prize.
With just 10 laps to go, Planck and Phelps zeroed in on Johnson as they mirrored every move made by DIRTcar Northeast's only five-time Driver-of-the-Year. Just as 97 clicked on the lap counter Phelps grabbed second from Planck and set his sights on Johnson with time running out. Phelps was able to snuggle up to Johnson's rear bumper on the white flag lap, and when the checkers came out he nearly pushed him across the stripe as the 50-minute main event brought the final curtain down.
“We had a really good car all day, just that the other guys had pretty good cars, too,” figured Johnson, following his second Big-Block win of 2010 which pushes his career count to 299 on the DIRTcar NE circuit. “With so many good cars and drivers in one place, anything can happen so you have to feel fortunate any time you can pick up a win.”
“Dale took off and was gone from the start, but we were able to reel him in later on and I thought things were going good. Then the caution came out, double-file restarts aren't for me. But like I said, that's why I'm lucky, those restarts happened the way they did and I was able to do what I did and be here in victory lane,” added Johnson, whose only other SDS race led (7 laps) this year was the Hagerstown Speedway opener in March.
Already finding his way to the front in seven of the first 12 Series shows in 2010, Phelps fell a fraction shy of tacking on his fourth win of the season and was forced to settle for his third runner-up tally in the previous five shows.
“We really had a good car, if we could've broke free early we could've probably dome something,” assessed Phelps, 35, who moved into a tie for second-place with Billy Decker on the Super DIRTcar Series points chart now 59 behind Sheppard. The Baldwinsville, N.Y. pilot remains in search of his first overall Mr. DIRTcar crown after placing among the front-four each of the past three years. “Still feel fortunate to get what we got out here today.”
“Once the track rubbered up early on you just had to wait for somebody to screw up in front to get by them, so starting 15th we're real happy with second. We were really good late, yet in the beginning we just tried to hang on. Even if we started closer to the front who's to say we wouldn't have backed up, so its hard to say if we would've won with a better starting spot.”
“The bottom line is that we got up in the mix again and we're close. Don't know if I could've got Danny without some traffic or maybe him making a mistake, who knows. Regardless, we had the car that we needed and we're happy with that,” stated Phelps, already an 11-time race winner in '10, just one checkered flag shy of Sheppard.
Fresh off leading 36 laps in the headline Series special Monday night at Autodrome Granby, Planck more than doubled his progress at Drummond as the second-generation standout from Cortland, N.Y. paced the pack for the initial 78 circuits on Tuesday.
“We went with a soft tire on the left-rear and it just didn't hold up for us towards the end,” lamented a disappointed Planck in the post-race interview. “The track just went away, the bottom (lane) took rubber within a lap after that restart and Dan was down there. I was coming down out of turn four trying to catch the rubber but it just locked right down and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“This car seems a little better though, definitely a lot better than last night at Granby. We're going back to the shop and get the #77x fixed back up and try it all over again this weekend,” Planck added.
Super DIRTcar Series travelers get two weeks off before hauling back across the border for round 10 on Monday, August 2 when Merrittville Speedway hosts the Bob St. Amand Sr. Memorial 100 presented by L. St. Amand Enterprises.

Drummondville, QUE - July 20, 2010 - Brett Hearn was looking for the sweep while Dale Planck was trying to lead the distance. Matt Sheppard and Jimmy Phelps had plans to retain their stronghold on the Big-Block Modified win chart while Billy Decker was hoping to regain his winning form.
When the checkered finally flew Tuesday night at Autodrome Drummond, it was open-wheel veteran Danny Johnson fulfilling his own destiny as the Rochester, N.Y. native laid claim to the Super DIRTcar Series 'Solution Ticket 100' to close out the annual Canadian Tour in the province of Quebec.
“Its been awhile but this team has been awesome for me, its great to be back,” remarked Johnson, now 50,

Mechanicsburg, PA-July 21, 2010- Prior to heading to the famed Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania for the Summer Nationals on Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24, each of the 16 drivers competing full-time with the World of Outlaws, shared their thoughts on the prestigious event at the always challenging half-mile. The winner of the finale of the Summer Nationals on Saturday night will earn $20,000, as the “Month of Money” continues for the World of Outlaws. Cody Darrah won the rain-delayed Summer Nationals last season, with the event being completed in October, on the same night as the National Open. Earlier this season at Williams Grove, Chad Layton and Fred Rahmer picked up wins to extend the Pennsylvania Posse's win streak to six over the World of Outlaws, which is the longest it has ever been in its storied rivalry.
Craig Dollansky, Driver of the No. 7 Big Game Treestands Maxim:
“It's a tough arena to go into to race for sure, but one of the tracks that I look forward to going to. Last time we were there it was in pretty good shape and a pretty racy-type track. Hopefully it's that way again and a good show for the fans. When there is booing and cheering you definitely notice that. There is a lot more booing going on for the World of Outlaws guys that cheering. That's the way it is and that's what makes the racing what it is. You have fans that are for you and fans that are against you and you definitely have more Posse fans out there.”
Brian Ellenberger, Driver of the No. 22 Ti-22 Performance JEI:
“I'm looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully we can find some changes that will help me roll around there a little better. We've been struggling out there. I've raced there a fair amount of times over the year. We used to pull out there in the early part of the season and race out there every year. It's a tough track and qualifying is very important, so hopefully we can qualify a little better than we have there in the past.”
Ben Gregg, Driver of the No. 2B Kronik Energy Maxim:
“I really enjoyed going there. I was probably a little more nervous going there than I needed to be, but I kind of took right to it. I'm looking forward to going back and getting a second shot at it. Having laps there definitely helps, especially since we had a two day show there the first time around. We're just trying to pay attention to our program and get in the show up there.”
Sam Hafertepe Jr., Driver of the No. 15H Lone Star Speedway Maxim:
“We're looking forward to going over there and have done really well the last three or four times over there, so we are pretty confident with what we have for that place. Having a couple of days over there will be good and hopefully we can draw some good numbers and get a good qualifying time and that will set us up for the whole weekend. We race our own deal and do our own program and we concentrate on what our car does and not really worry about what everyone else is doing.”
Jac Haudenschild, Driver of the No. R19 Owens-Corning Fiberglass XXX:
“Going to Pennsylvania is always tough and those guys run there every week and get around there pretty good. They are definitely tough at the Grove. The heat races are always tough at the Grove and it comes back to qualifying and you have to qualify good and it's tough to qualify good there because you have a lot of local guys that run good over there. If you can get through the heat race and get a good starting spot in the main event, you feel like you can get up through there.”
Chad Kemenah: Driver of the No. 63 Golden Flavor Sesame Sticks Maxim:
“Williams Grove is kind of a beast of its own and I don't know if anyone has ever figured out the potion over there. You go there and always hope for the best. You never know when you leave Williams Grove. Those guys are tough for sure and some of the toughest locals we race all year. The race track itself adds so much to it. The race track itself is such a beast and those guys race there every week and they have it figured out. Hopefully we can go in there and have a couple of consistent runs.”
Kraig Kinser, Driver of the No. 11K Quaker State Maxim:
“In the sprint car world, when you go there, it's like walking on hallowed ground, because there is so much history. If you like sprint car history, the Grove is a living legend and you always want to run well there, especially with the Posse guys there. The competition there makes it tough and it's always a stellar field there. We try to focus on what we are doing. I grew up on the other end of that rivalry being around the Outlaws guys. They are some of the toughest competition around. They are friends and competitors and we share a common goal and a common love for the sport.”
Steve Kinser, Driver of the No. 11 Bass Pro Shops Maxim:
“It's definitely a tough place and they have a lot of good race cars there. Like anywhere else, qualifying is very important. It can put you pretty deep in the field if you don't watch it. I definitely need to run better there than I did last time. We look to get back on pace when we get there and hopefully have a good weekend over there.”
Danny Lasoski, Driver of the No. 6 Casey's General Store JEI:
“We always look forward to going to Williams Grove. We feel like we have an “Ace in the hole,” with Barry Jackson. That's his home track and we usually run good there. We were running good there the time before until we flipped and are ready to get back there. When we go there, you get to measure up against the local guys and they are the best in the country. We know this is the “Month of Money” and all the big races are up and you prepare each night to win and hope for the best.”
Toni Lutar, Driver of the No. 4X Northwest Used Auto Parts KPC:
“There is some pretty heavy competition there, but it's a fun place to race at. The fans are pretty unique and pretty intense there. It's a very fast track, that's for sure. It's a tough place that's for sure, but I like going there and we had a good time back there in the spring. We're looking forward to going back there this weekend for two nights of racing.”
Paul McMahan, Driver of the No. 91 Great Clips Maxim:
“I'm really looking forward to getting back to the Grove. I think we had a pretty good race car there last time and just got caught up in that big wreck on the first lap. I'm looking forward to getting over there and hopefully the Great Clips car is as good there as it's been the last few weeks. Qualifying is important anywhere we go nowadays, but it's most definitely important at Williams Grove. They have a great caliber of cars there. They have 15 or 20 guys that can win a race and we have our 15 or so guys that can win a race. It's a tough crowd to go into, especially with it being on their turf.”
Jason Meyers, Driver of the No. 14 GLR Investments KPC
“We're still looking for that win at Williams Grove for Charlie Garrett who builds our motors, who is from out there and that is his home track. We're looking forward to hopefully getting that this trip. The rivalry certainly exists among the fans, and as a driver it's certainly one of the most competitive areas that we go into. It's a tough place and a very important place to run well at and be consistent. We've run pretty good there the last few years, though we had not so good of a visit the first time this year. We're looking forward to going back and recouping that.”
Joey Saldana, Driver of the No. 9 Budweiser Maxim:
“That place is definitely qualifying oriented and if you don't qualify well you don't race well. It seems like the last three times we have been there, we have qualified a lot better. I think as long as we can keep our qualifying effort going, we can hopefully race better than we have in the past there. The fans definitely make the PA Posse into an event in itself with the Outlaws versus the Posse. You can't knock Knoxville (Raceway) or Chico (Silver Dollar Speedway) or Eldora (Speedway). There are a lot of other places that have good 410-sprint car racing with good equipment. It just seems they don't have the fan following behind them like PA does, so you hear about those guys a lot more.”
Donny Schatz, Driver of the No. 15 Armor All/STP J&J:
“It's a level of respect that you have to learn for that race track and I've been lucky to have learned it. When I started going there I did bad and actually hated it. It's one of those places that now I look forward to going to. No matter how good or bad my car is, I feel like I am in a good position to win when we go to that place the way we run around there. It's fun for me and I have a lot of friends up there and a lot of people I enjoy seeing. It's a fun place to go and we look forward to getting out there in the summer. Rain has kind of plagued it the last couple of times we have been there, so hopefully we can keep that way too and have a great weekend and try to win the Summer Nationals.
“It means a lot to the fans so it is important. We don't get too much wrapped up in it. They do have some great racers, but there are great racers out here as well. It's just that camaraderie and you have to be loyal to your part of the country and defend your part of the country. That's what it boils down to and you can't blame them for that. If there were that many guys racing in North Dakota, I'd be the same way and we'd just called them the “North Dakota Posse.” It's a neat deal and something that has had a lot of hype over the years. We don't just set our sights on beating the Posse when we go out there. We want to win every night and we'll try to do that.”
Jason Sides, Driver of the No. 7S Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim:
“It's definitely a tough track and one where it pays to have a lot of laps at and someone that races there all the time. We have struggled there recently, so if we can make the features and not have to use a provisional it will be a good weekend for us. That's one of those places where those guys run it so much and we don't run it very much that it's a different type of atmosphere and everyone that runs there weekly has an advantage on us.”
Lucas Wolfe, Driver of the No. 5W Allebach Racing Maxim:
“I'm happy to get back there. We were good earlier this year there so hopefully we can have the same kind of results when we go back this time. The guys there run very well and run quite a few races there and are very competitive. It's a tough challenge and its fun to go back there and race those guys, since we don't get to race them very often. They've had the upper hand here lately and hopefully I can be the one that changes that.”
