A Dazzling Debut: Doug Esh Wins
in First Trip to Lebanon Valley Speedway

Over 30 late Models filled the pits, and made for some exciting racing on the fast Brockville track. Their 30 lap feature was won by David Scott, of Garland, Pennsylvania. Andrew Reaume was second, and two time defending series champion Greg Oakes finished third. Chad Valone and Peter Mantha finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In the Sportsman feature, Chris Raabe charged from 17th to first, only to have a bolt break loose in the steering, forcing Raabe to the pits, and costing him the win. Dylan Evoy inherited the lead, but he was passed in the final laps by Sheldon Hoogwerf to take the win. Chris Herbison also got by Evoy on the final lap to take second. Evoy finished third, point leader Mike Mainse was fourth and Randy Earl finished fifth.
Eli Gilbert won the Street Stock main event. John Gibson was the Vintage Modified winner and Chris Lloyd took the checkered flag in the 4cylinder “rookie” division.
On Sunday night at Cornwall Speedway, the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series was again the headline class. The 358 Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Semi-Pros and Mini Stocks also filled the schedule.
Former Modified competitor Peter Mantha, from Gatineau, Quebec took the lead in the closing laps, and held on for his first career Late Model win. Greg Oakes finished second, the winner from Brockville, David Scott finished third Kirk Hooker was fourth and Greg Belyea finished fifth.
Lke Whitteker, of Iroquois, Ontario won the Modified feature over Carey Terrance, Tim O'Brien, Kyle Dingwall and Laurent Ladouceur.
Luie Jackson was the Pro Stock feature winner. Kevin Fetterly Jr. was the Semi-Pro Feature winner, and Martin Bernard was the Mini Stock feature winner.
Next weekend, Chapman's Can Am Motorsports Park will be back in action with a regular show for all classes. Saturday night I will be back at Brockville Speedway and then on Sunday, Cornwall Speedway will kick off the month of August with a special 125 lap Canadian Nation Series event. A full show is also scheduled at Cornwall, with the exception of the Semi Pro division. Can Am will also have a special Enduro race on Sunday, August 1st. Four Separate 50 lap races will be held, with the winner receiving $1000 for each one. If the same driver wins at least three of four, the will earn a $1000 bonus.
I must mention the passing of a friend and fellow racing enthusiast Mike Watts. Mike was the track photographer at the Mohawk Raceway in Hogansburg, New York as well as the Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh. Mike also made several appearances at Cornwall Speedway each season. Mike is survived by sons Mike Jr. and Andy and wife Jane.

EDMONTON (July 25, 2010) - JR Fitzpatrick completed his domination of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 weekend at Edmonton City Centre Airport by winning the Canadian Tire 100 presented by Konica Minolta on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Cambridge, Ont., driver had topped his competition throughout the three days of action on the 1.973-mile, 14-turn temporary road course. He was quickest in practice sessions on Friday and Saturday and won the pole in qualifying on Saturday in his No. 84 Schick Hydro Chevrolet.
“The car was really good today. We’ve been battling a handling problem all weekend, but it handled pretty well in the race,” said Fitzpatrick.
It was Fitzpatrick’s second win of the 2010 campaign and the sixth of his series career including a 2007 win in Edmonton. Cutting his teeth on the short tracks of Ontario, he has developed into a road-course ace – five of his career wins and both victories in 2010 have come on road courses having won at Mosport International Raceway in June.
Fitzpatrick, who led all 32 laps, pulled away from his competition at the drop of the green and held off all challengers en route to the victory. Runner-up Anthony Simone looked to be closing in, but a Lap 18 caution flag put a damper on the challenge and Fitzpatrick was able to escape on the restart on Lap 21.
“I saw (Simone) creeping closer and closer,” Fitzpatrick said. “We’ve been experimenting with some different fans in the car, but I turned those off during the caution and the car took off after that.”
Simone, coming off an eighth-place finish in points last season, is not off to a good start in 2010 including a 30th-place finish a week ago in Toronto making his Edmonton performance critical to the season’s success.
“This was just like a win for us,” said Simone, out of Holland Landing, Ont., “(Fitzpatrick) had a better car today, but we’ve struggled so much and I hope that we can build some momentum now. If the caution flag had not come out, then maybe we could have gotten to the last 10 laps and made a run. We’ll take second place. It was a good day.”
Scott Steckly was able to secure third place with a last-lap pass of Trevor Seibert, who ended up with a fourth-place finish while Kerry Micks, who started alongside Fitzpatrick on the front row, finished in fifth.

Caution Flags: 1 for 3 laps.

The battle between Steckly and Seibert was a race within the race all day long. The two cars were seemingly linked together as neither driver could gain any substantial advantage over the other.
“Seibert’s car was definitely better than ours at the beginning,” said Steckly. “There aren’t very many good passing zones here and he was a little better there, too, which made it hard to set him up for a pass. Finally, there on the last lap I was able to get by him.”
Rounding out the top-10 finishers were Peter Klutt, Jason Hathaway, Don Thomson Jr., Jarrad Whissell and Joey McColm.
The race was slowed due to caution just one time for three laps when Daryl Harr’s car came to a stop on the frontstretch.
In the championship point standings, Fitzpatrick trailed DJ Kennington by 41 points coming into the event, but the win coupled with Kennington’s 15th-place finish resulted in Fitzpatrick taking over the top spot by 31 points over Kennington.

Edmonton, AB (July 25th, 2010) Pierre Bourque in the #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Dodge began the Western swing for the Canadian NASCAR series looking to complete the race scoring another solid finish and improve his position in the overall point standings. Even though a mechanical issue hampered overall race finishing position, Bourque was able to climb another position in the championship standings.
During practice the #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Dodge did not display the speed that Pierre Bourque was hoping for but after some fine tuning by the team the expected the car would be able to move up from the sixteenth place starting position.
Early on during the 100km main event Sunday afternoon the car did just that. “The #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Dodge was living up to its name at the start” said Bourque. “We had a great first lap and a half and think we passed about eight cars” he added.
The rest of the afternoon would prove to be a battle for Bourque and the #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Dodge. “We got pushed up on the curb on the back part of the course” said the frustrated driver. “And we bent a tie rod and I wasn't able to turn right, and this is a track you need to able to turn right on” he added.
The team made the decision to call Bourque and the #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Dodge to pit lane. “We made a pit stop and the team did a great job to make some repairs so that I could at least drive the car but obviously didn't have the handling I did before” explained the driver.
Despite having an ill handling car Bourque fought doggedly for the balance of the race for every position. “We stayed out in the fight and hoped that we could gain as many positions as possible and our efforts were rewarded” said the driver. “We really showed our determination as a team and personally I feel like the Aaron's Lucky Dog as we gained in the standings even with our adversity early on” he added.
Despite his disappointing finish Bourque was able to secure enough points to improve his spot in the overall championship by one position to ninth. “I'm pleased that we were so fortunate” said Bourque. “The #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Dodge had a tough day but our efforts this season got a boost today. We're now only 11 points out of eighth spot and 20 points from seventh” he added.

BEAUCHAMP BUMPED FROM BEHIND
SUFFERS CUT BRAKE LINE

July 25, 2010. Ron Beauchamp and the #60 Mobil 1/Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries team worked tirelessly to improve the performance of their race car throughout the weekend during round five of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series this past weekend at the Edmonton Indy. Just when it looked like they were heading toward the front of the field during the race, a tap from behind would ruin their afternoon.
The team began the three race swing through western Canada struggling to achieve the performance they knew the #60 Mobil 1/Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries Dodge was capable of. “The car just wasn't feeling right during the Friday practice session” said Ron Beauchamp Jr. “We discussed a lot of areas we could adjust and by Saturday afternoon we had made a big improvement” he added.
Mired in the middle of the pack during practice Beauchamp jumped the #60 Mobil 1/Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries Dodge up to the seventh best qualifying time during the Saturday afternoon session. “I was able to drive the car deeper into the corners and really get a good bite coming of the turns” he stated.

As the green flag waved for the 100km event Sunday afternoon Beauchamp immediately looked for racing room to again improve the track position of the #60 Mobil 1/Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries Dodge. Others behind him weren't as cautious in their efforts and Ron Jr. was impacted from behindand sent awkwardly across the rumble strips in the corner. “In corner two the track narrows down and you need to be single file” explained the driver. “We got hit from behind and when we went across the rumble strips we cut a brake line” he stated.
The #60 Mobil 1/Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries team did an outstanding job to make the repairs on track and get Beauchamp back into the battle however the damage was done. Even quick repairs during green flag racing put them several laps down.
Beauchamp soldier the #60 Mobil 1/Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries Dodge to the finish and although he would be classified eighteenth he remains in the top-ten of the overall championship in eighth spot. “It was a tough weekend but we've got lots of racing left and this team will not quit” stated the driver. “We're headed to Vernon now and we know we'll have a fast race car” he concluded.
Ron Beauchamp Jr. and the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge Team will compete in all thirteen races on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Round number six takes place Saturday July 31st at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC. All events this season will again be broadcast on TSN, For more information about Team Mopar go online to www.mopar.ca and for series information check out www.nascar.ca Attached photo: The #60 Exide Batteries/Mopar Parts/Mobil 1 team Dodge on track at Edmonton

July 25, 2010. Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team embarked on the western swing of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series schedule looking to build some momentum and continued improvement in their performance. At round number five of the season at the Edmonton Indy this past weekend the team did show some good speed and better lap times but a tough break didn't allow them to gain the finish they hoped for.
During the initial practice session carburetor issued hampered the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet. “It was a nagging little problem with the carburetor but after the Friday practice I managed to take care of it once and for all” said White. “The rest of the weekend you could really feel the difference in the cars performance” he added.
Relegated to the slower group for qualifying Derek White managed only to place the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet twentieth on the grid. “With the carburetor issues we got a little behind and I still have some work to do on qualifying” said the rookie driver.
As the green flag waved on for the 100km event on Sunday afternoon White knew the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet was a fast race car. “I could feel the car pulling down the straightaway so well” he said. “There was lots of horsepower and the car was handling really well too” he stated.
It turned out it was almost as if the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet was too strong. As White was looking to continue his move forward in the field he felt something in the rear end of the car go wrong exiting a corner. “We had a little too much bite in the corner and we snapped an axle” said the driver dejectedly.

DEREK WHITE BATTLES HARD
IN EDMONTON

The race at Edmonton proved to be another lesson in the rookie season for the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar team. “These guys worked so to get the car ready just to make it out here, they did a great job” said White. “We've just got to chalk this up to learning experience. I did get some more seat time in the car, it felt great to be out there and it was a lot of fun. But knowing how good the car could have finished this one is a little bit frustrating” he added.
Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gas Bar Team are scheduled to race next Saturday July 31st at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC. The team is scheduled to compete in all thirteen series races this season. As in years past all NCATS races will also be seen on TSN. West Lebanon, NY-July 25, 2010- Doug Esh had never seen Lebanon Valley Speedway until Sunday afternoon when he rolled through the pit gate, but that didn't really matter as he quickly got up to speed and put himself in the right spots to win in his debut at the blazing fast half-mile to score his first World of Outlaws A-Feature win of the season and the second of his career.
Esh started on the pole and beat Jason Sides into turn one at the drop of the green and would use strong restarts a couple of times en route to the $10,000 triumph, as he continues to fill in for the injured Jac Haudenschild in the Owens-Corning Fiberglass XXX.
"This is unbelievable," said Esh in Victory Lane. "I have to thank Lon Carnahan for giving me a shot. It's a shame that Jac (Haudenschild) got hurt. The Triple X car, I had never driven one and this may be the best car I have ever sat in. Leonard, Marie and Kyle worked hard all day and had one of the fastest cars here tonight and I just had to get the job done."
Esh was out front with two laps to go when the second and final caution flag of the night flew, setting up a double file restart with 20-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser lining up alongside of him. Esh chose the low side of the track and led the field into turns one and two to hold onto the lead and was able to pull away a little bit on the final lap of the 25-lap contest.
"He is 'The King' and I am the little guys," quipped the winner when asked about having Kinser line up next to him on the double file restart. "I figured if I could get a good run off of (turn) four and get to the corner first I could get it done. Jason Sides and I battled all night from the front row. These motors take off great and never stop."
Esh chose the low side at the half-mile on both double file restarts, at a track where traditionally the pole position is on the outside line and drivers always chose the high side of the track on restarts when given the choice. The first caution of the night flew on the 13th lap, at which time Esh had opened a fairly sizable lead over Jason Sides.
"Leonard (Lee) and I talked about it and all night I started on the bottom and was able to get the lead, so why change that," explained the native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. "The car felt great down there and the motor runs great off the corner. I didn't want to change what was working."
Steve Kinser used strong double file restart on the 13th lap to get by Jason Sides for second and looked to the inside of Esh in turns one and two and again in three and four to no avail on that same lap. On the finale restart he lined up on the high side of the half-mile next to Esh and wound up second in the Bass Pro Shops Maxim to score his series leading 26th Top-Five finish of the season.
"I wanted to be down in the moisture, is where I wanted to be," shared the 20-time series champion. "There was no way you were going to beat anyone off the top off of (turn) four, it was just too slick. Once you got speed up there you were all right. I wanted to try and work the bottom and think I could have. I didn't need that last yellow, if we would have raced in traffic that was probably about the only shot we had."
Donny Schatz came from the ninth starting spot to finish third aboard the Armor All/STP J&J to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award. He gained three spots on the opening lap before Jason Meyers got back around him for sixth on the second circuit. The pair then battled for the next several laps. Schatz was able to gain a spot on the lap-13 double file restart on the way to his 21st Top-Five finish of the season.
"We had a shot at it, but catching him is one thing and passing him is a whole different thing," stated Schatz. "It was a good run for us starting ninth, you can't complain about that. We passed all the guys on the bottom and would have liked to have had a few more laps, but 25 laps was enough and we got a pretty respectable finish."
Jason Meyers ended up fourth in the GLR Investments KPC, with Craig Dollansky fifth in the Big Game Treestands Maxim. Jason Sides was sixth in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim. David Gravel matched the best finish of his career with the World of Outlaws, coming home seventh in the JaneDoeNoMore.org J&J.
Joey Saldana, the current World of Outlaws point leader, finished eighth in the Budweiser Maxim, with Danny Lasoski ninth in the Casey's General Stores JEI. Paul McMahan rounded out the Top-10 in the Great Clips Maxim.
The World of Outlaws return to action on Tuesday, July 27 at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada for an inaugural event.

Whitteker Wins Modifieds Feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design
July 25, 2010
Entering their rookie season in a 358 Modified, Luke Whitteker and his Whitteker Motorsports team didn't know what to expect. They were always consistent in the Sportsman class, but this new division was totally different, and the competition level is so much higher. It didn't take Whitteker long to prove that this decision was the right one, and as the season progresses Whitteker continues to get even better behind the wheel.
“In the first part of the season, we didn't have any set up notes to go back on. At Edelweiss we seemed to hit it right off the bat, but here at Cornwall it took us a while to get the car dialed in”, stated Whitteker.
The Whitteker Motorsports team traveled to Granby, Quebec on Friday night for the Canadian Super Challenge series. Whitteker made his first ever appearance at the track, and turned the third fastest time in his time trial group before rain moved in and canceling the remainder of the event.
Sunday it was back to the Whitteker's home track, Cornwall Motor Speedway. Whitteker had been very strong most of the season at Cornwall posting many top five finishes. Whitteker had his best opportunity ever and took advantage of it with his front row starting position as he led every lap of the 358 Modified feature.
“The car was awesome tonight. I have to thank my parents, my grandparents, my girlfriend, the crew and all of our sponsors for their support, it has been a great season so far”, commented Whitteker in victory lane at Cornwall.
With just over a month to go in the season at the weekly tracks, Whitteker sits second in points, just four points behind the leader at Edelweiss Speedway. Whitteker is in fifth place overall at Cornwall, 49 points behind the leader.
This coming weekend Whitteker will be back at Edelweiss Speedway on Friday night, and then to Cornwall Motor Speedway for a 125-lap Canadian National Series event.

Border Patrol - A weekly look at racing from both sides of the 1000 Islands
Craig Revelle - July 25, 2010

Since the beginning of the season, my weekly Friday night routine is to attend the Chapman's Can Am Motorsports Park. Those plans had to be altered after a Tornado ripped through the Lafargeville, New York area leaving the track with some heavy damage. The clean up has already taken place and repairs are being made and the track will be back open this coming weekend.
With Can Am canceled and rain in the area most of the day Friday, it was doubtful that any track would be able race, but as I got out of work Friday, I discovered that the Mohawk Raceway in Hogansburg, New York was still racing, and after a quick call to the Todd Stewart team, I met up with them and we were on our way to the track. We weren't there long before the rain started to fall, and they too had to cancel their racing program.
On Saturday, I was back to the Brockville Ontario Speedway. The normal headline class, the 358 Modifieds had the week off and were replaced by the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series (ODLMS). This series draws cars from all over Ontario, Quebec, New York and Pennsylvania.

July 25, 2010. DJ Kennington, driver of the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge had been a model of consistency through the first four events of the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season. After posting two victories and recording an average finishing position of 2.8 Kennington appeared to be continuing on that path as the series opened the swing through western Canada at the Edmonton Indy weekend.
On the final lap of the 100km event fortunes for the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge team changed dramatically when a part failure caused Kennington to spin sideways out of the fifth position he was running in.
The entire weekend for the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge team had gone according to plan. Kennington as usual was among the top runners in all sessions and scored the sixth quickest time during qualifying. “We had a good lap to give us a solid starting spot, and then afterwards we made some adjustments to the car for the race” explained Kennington. “I was pretty confident that we'd be very competitive” he added.
As the 100km event began Kennington had the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge in the middle of the battle by competitors from third through sixth spot. “It was some very good racing by everyone” said Kennington. “We all looked to improve our spot, and gave each other room to race it was a lot of fun” he added.

The battled between the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge and the other drivers continued into the late stages and Kennington was able to slip by the #02 car and into the top-five. “That was our minimum goal and we got into the top-five” said the driver.
As Kennington accepted the white flag indicating the final lap for the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge he headed for home appearing to have the position secured. However without warning a powerful part failure occurred and sent the car spinning in one of the final corners. “I don't know what happened the car just snapped out from under me” said the disappointed driver. "This is very out of character but it does happen, we'll just have to bounce back next week in Vernon with the car that's won twice this year” he stated and smiled with confidence.
The series continues its run in western Canada with a stop next Saturday July 31st at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC. Follow the progress of the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors Dodge all season on the newly redesigned website www.djkracing.ca plus you can follow their daily activities at
