Johnson Has Visions Of California Title
Rocco Maintains NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Lead
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 13, 2010) - For Las Vegas driver Justin Johnson, his race team sponsor - Vision Airlines - is fitting.
“They have a vision,” said Johnson of the Georgia-based charter airline that got its start in Las Vegas. “Right now, their vision is to win a championship. Hopefully I'll get it for them.”
Johnson is certainly doing his part. He has won five of the last six races in the Pepsi Super Late Model Division at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif. In addition to holding a commanding lead at the high-speed half-mile, Johnson also leads the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series California state championship standings.
NASCAR will crown 25 U.S. state and Canadian provincial champions, continuing a tradition that dates back to the sport's early years. The first NASCAR California state champion was Danny Graves in 1954.
Connecticut's Keith Rocco continues his grip on the top spot in the national standings with 788 points - just 22 points shy of a maximum score. He had an off week by his standards, finishing seventh at Thompson International Speedway and third at Stafford Motor Speedway. The 25-year-old Wallingford, Conn., driver also races his asphalt Modified at a third Connecticut track, Waterford Speedbowl, which did not race this past weekend.
Rocco has 16 wins, 24 top fives and 29 top 10s in 30 starts.
Craig Preble, of Yutan, Neb., remains second in points with 715 points. Racing his dirt crate Late Model, Preble was third at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., on Saturday and closed out the weekend with a win at I-80 Speedway in Omaha, Neb., on Sunday. He has 13 wins and 21 top fives in 21 starts.
Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C., no relation to the Toyota Speedway driver, picked up his 10th asphalt Late Model win of the season at Motor Mile in Radford, Va., to improve his third-place total to 650 points. Johnson has 10 wins, 14 top fives and 17 top 10s in 18 races at Motor Mile and South Boston (Va.) Speedway.
Bill Leighton Jr. (602 points), who races against Preble at the two Nebraska tracks, is fourth. Former national champion Ted Christopher moved into fifth with 593 after finishing second at Thompson and ninth at Stafford.
A driver's best 18 results are counted toward their state and national points totals, and the champions are decided on overall points total.
Under the points structure for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the race winner received two points for every car in the event up to 20. Second place received two fewer points, and so-on through the field. Race winners received an additional five bonus points. For example, if there are 20 cars, the winner received 45 points, second gets 38 and third 36. If there are 15 cars, the winner received 35 points, second gets 28 and third, 26.
California points leader Johnson, who worked at Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain, Nev., for the last four years, was originally hired by Vision Aviation Racing as a driver coach for 17-year-old Dusty Davis.
That position has morphed into a two-car team and Johnson ran a handful of races at Toyota Speedway to close out 2009.
“We felt for us to be seen and our name out there, racing at Irwindale was the place we had to be,” said Johnson of the track that also hosts the prestigious postseason NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. “Last year was pretty much a learning curve for us. We went into this year just hoping to win a couple races.”
Instead, Johnson has just one finish outside of the top three and posted wins in half of the events. He leads Davis, who has three wins, by 34 points in the track championship race.
Johnson said that while his driving style suits long runs, he's improved his qualifying efforts and that has resulted in the better finishes this year at Toyota Speedway. He also points to the work former track champion Rip Michels has contributed to their shock package, and said the primary credit rests with Chuck Wahl.
“If we need to make a change, he makes the right change,” Johnson said. “He's worked his butt off being the crew chief.”
Track, state and provincial champions and the top three finishers in the national standings earn invitations to the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards Banquet. The winner of the national championship will also earn a secure spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. For more information, contact:

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 13, 2010) - NASCAR announced today the implementation of a 30-day membership license option for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, a move geared towards helping out competitors who look to become involved during the second half of the season.
The licenses will be available beginning July 15, 2010, at NASCAR Whelen All-American Series sanctioned tracks, and will cover Feature Division, Charger Division, Learners Permits and crew member licenses.
“This is something our tracks told us is an important intermediate step to be available for them to offer potential new competitors,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR managing director of racing operations. “The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series membership brings with it a number of advantages, from the involvement in the season-ending points fund, competing for state and national championships, to our industry-leading medical and accident coverage insurance.
“We feel the ability to offer these types of benefits for drivers or crew who may be getting a late start to the season but who still wish to compete in NASCAR events during the second half of the year, or who may be testing the waters at season's end with an eye towards next year, is key to helping our NASCAR Whelen All-American Series tracks continue to put on the high-level of competition our fans have come to expect.”
Holders of a 30-day license may upgrade to a full-year license at any time during the 30-calendar-day period, and apply the cost of the initial license to the full-year fee.
Only drivers with a full-year membership will be eligible for season-ending points fund distribution and other season-long awards.

Over 7500 fans came to Delaware Speedway on Wednesday night to watch NASCAR drivers, Kyle Busch, David Reutimann and Jason Leffler duke it out with the best Late Model drivers in Ontario. It wasn't just fans who wanted to see the NASCAR stars, thirty race teams came to show case their race cars in front of one of the biggest crowds of the 2010 season, and take a shot at beating Kyle Busch, a super star in NACAR racing.
This premier event was a tremendous success and will be repeated again in 2011. Our Quaker State team failed to make the 50 lap main event, but many fans, announcers and other race teams encouraged us during the Autograph session and the 25 lap B-Main qualifier. We wanted badly to run against Kyle, David and Jason, but our Flamboro car needed more preparation to run against the Delaware cars, who have a different, but close, Late Model rule book. We learned a lot from this race and will be ready for the 200 lap Labour Day classic.

Race Report #10
After a disappointing outing at Delaware Speedway on July 7th, we returned to our home track to have a great run finishing 2nd in both our heats and 3rd in the 30 lap feature race.
The night went well with another good size crowd and beautiful weather. The points chase is still the focus for us, and though we had a great night, our closest rivals faired just as well.

WoO Late Model Series stars Tim McCreadie & Tim Fuller return to their racing roots
Weedsport, NY - July 13, 2010 - Only a few days remain before the 2nd Annual DIRTcar All-Star Weekend reaches Cayuga County Fair Speedway and the pre-race roster continues to take shape with Brewerton Speedway added to the 2010 edition.
'Super DIRT Week of the Summer' opens this year at Brewerton on July 15 and follows up July 16 & 17 at Cayuga County with the Big-Block Modified winners on Saturday alone sharing $20,000 from the record posted purse of $100,000.
The current cast of stars from the Northeastern Big-Block Modified ranks already filing entries or making verbal commitments to participate this week includes point champions and feature race winners from every top DIRTcar track in the region.
Joined by former Big-Block hotshoes Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller ---just as worthy nowadays in the full-fender World of Outlaws LM ranks--- at the home of DIRTcar Racing Northeast will be record seven-time Super DIRTcar Series Champion Brett Hearn, current SDS points leader Billy Decker, 2009 Super DIRTcar Week Syracuse 200 champion Matt Sheppard and defending All-Star Weekend winner Ryan Phelps.
Along with another dozen tour regulars already registered for the rare tripleheader will be a pit area full of Empire State stalwarts headed by veteran Pat Ward and Vic Coffey plus third-generation Canadian star Stewart Friesen, BRP Tour standout Jeremiah Shingledecker and former Super DIRT Week champion Richie Tobias Jr.
An added attraction in the 2nd edition of the All-Star 100 is a wild new format that is guaranteed to keep the competition keen for the distance. Saturday's century shootout will be divided into three segments, with each offering separate purses.
The first $5,000-to-win 25-lap segment will be lined up using the Super DIRTcar Series standard procedure of time trials followed by heats and the customary redraw. Two other drivers will earn an automatic spot in the redraw from the “Exemption Dash” run Friday night. The second 25-lapper will be set with a total inversion of all the lead lap cars or a minimum of the Top-20 from segment one.
The third and final segment, which is 50 laps and pays $10,000 to win, will be aligned based on points earned in the first two segments using “motocross points” --- a simple formula of the addition of each finish in the two 25-lap races. The low point driver of the combined finishes will start on the pole or the nightcap.
