NAPLES ME (7/23) Ben Rowe found a way to get around Preston Peltier with four laps to go in Thursday night's Thompson (CT) International Speedway Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North super late model feature to capture the victory in race number three of the 2010 PASS National Championship Series. PASS South and National point leader Peltier settled for second after leading most of the seventy five lap sprint and PASS North point leader Johnny Clark claimed third. Jay Fogleman and Lonnie Sommerville raced home fourth and fifth.
The win was Rowe's second of 2010 and first National Championship win of the season. With both PASS North and National points on the line, Rowe edged a few markers closer to Johnny Clark in their battle for an unprecedented fifth PASS North title.
Alan Tardiff and Peltier led the field to the green and Peltier quickly established himself at the front of the field. Early on it was Peltier, defending race winner Derek Ramstrom, Fogleman, Kelly Moore and Tardiff battling for position at the front. Ben Rowe and Johnny Clark have both earned PASS North feature wins in 2010 and series rules require that they start outside the top ten.The pair had to work their way through the field if they were going to contend and It didn't take the two long to crack the top five. Rowe made his move past Clark on a lap 32 restart and the pair took the battle to the two southern invaders.
That restart was Fogleman's cue to challenge Peltier for the lead and the pair battled tooth and nail lap after lap.Fogleman managed to get the nose out front on several occasions before settling back into second. The front four were racing nose to tail, putting on the kind of show that only super late models can. Rowe made his move on Fogleman with thirteen remaining when Fogleman kissed the backstretch wall trying to keep the 48 behind him. Rowe set his sights on Peltier and looked high and low for ten laps before he was able to make his move Behind the front two Peltier and Clark were having a torrid battle for third,. Clark prevailed on lap seventy to capture the final spot on the podium.
Several potential contenders succumbed to mechanical issues. Derek Ramstrom lost his brakes and slapped the turn two wall, ending his bid for two straight PASS wins at Thompson. Ted Christopher, early front runner Kelly Moore, pole sitter Alan Tardiff and Steve Legendre were all behind the wall before the half-way mark.
Eleven cars completed all seventy-five laps in a race slowed by two cautions. Tardiff and Peltier won their respective qualifying races.
The PASS North super late models and PASS Mods travel to Groveton New Hampshire's Riverside Speedway for Summer fest 2010 on Saturday July 31st. Round number four of the PASS National Championship series is scheduled for Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on September 11 and 12.
PASS South heads for the Volunteer State on Saturday August 7th for the Daniel Boone Classic. Check out the PASS web site for details on both events; the address is

Ben Rowe rumbles to PASS North win at Thompson
Naples ME - The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) traveling road show heads for northern New Hampshire's Riverside Speedway this weekend, headlining the Saturday July 31 edition of Summerfest 2010 at the tough little bullring nestled on the banks of the Connecticut River.
The PASS North Super Late Models will transition from the fastest track on the schedule to the series' tightest when they pay their annual visit to the Groveton New Hampshire quarter mile. Ben Rowe is coming off a win at Thompson International Speedway where the average speeds reach 120 miles per hour, but the short track superstar is equally at home on the quarter miles. Still Rowe doesn't have a “Grovetona” win to his credit, unlike Johnny Clark, Cassius Clark and Kelly Moore.
Cassius Clark is having a solid 2010. He's third in the point standings with five top tens in eight starts, but there's a big goose egg in his win column and Riverside might be the place where Clark corrects that. Johnny Clark seems to have taken a liking to Riverside's high banks with feature wins in 2004 and 2008. The PASS North super late model point leader lost a few markers to Rowe at Thompson and he will be looking to regain those valuable championship points and more on Saturday night.
The PASS Mod squad will battle for 40 laps and point leader Andy Shaw is the only driver to carry the checkers twice in 2010. Bill Dixon joined Shaw, Wayne Whitten Jr., Leo Oliveira and Chris Staples on the 2010 race winners list Saturday when he raced home in front of Alan Wilson and Jon Brill at Canaan Fair Speedway. Dixon has a Riverside win to his credit but there's a host of Mod drivers that will have a shot at victory when the green flag drops.
There's a whole lot more in store for this two day festival of speed. On Friday July 30 the Jake McDowell Memorial 100 takes to the track with up to 40 of the finest street stock drivers in the Northeast Kingdom doing battle in the second segment of the Bond Auto Parts Triple Crown Series. The race is 100 laps with the winner pocketing $1000. Time trials for the pole position have been added to the excitement, with a cool $100 going to the car with the fastest lap time. Add to that card the Caron Building Center Daredevils, the Isaacson Structural Steel Angels, and the North Country Ford Late Models. Plus, Kyle Chandler and his monster truck Dominator will put on a display of car crushing, grass ripping, and car jumping second to none. Once the excitement is done on the speedway, you'll be able to rock the night away at Jean and Jane's Pit Stop located in turn four. Outlaw/Sportsman driver Jordan Davis will have his rock group perform from the top of the VIP area until the mid-night hour. Monster trucks are the opening act on Friday at 7:00 PM.
In addition to the PASS North super late models and Mods, Saturdays' day two of Summerfest will feature the Nelcar Legends, Riverside Speedway's Budweiser Super Stocks and Jiffy Mart Cyclones. The monster trucks will close out the weekend with an encore performance. Saturdays' extravaganza goes green at 5:00 PM sharp.

PASS North tackles Riverside Speedway Saturday at Summerfest 2010
REMEMBERING MIKE WATTS,
MIR TRACK PHOTOGRAPHER
AKWESASNE, NY -- Mike Watts, track photograph at Mohawk International Raceway (MIR) and Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. The staff, racing teams, fans and sponsors of MIR would like to express their deepest sympathies and condolences to his wife Jane and sons Mike Jr. and Andy, their family and their many, many friends.
Mike Watts had been involved in racing his entire life, first as a fan at Airborne Park Speedway as a child and then first picking up the camera and taking photos of the racing action at the age of sixteen in 1967. He covered racing action at Airborne on a weekly basis from the 1960s through the late 1980s and returned again to Airborne on a weekly basis in 2005 when his close friend Mike Perrotte became promoter and brought the 358 Modifieds back to the track on a weekly basis. Mike Watts was thrilled to "come home" to the track he grew up at and see his friends in action on the speedway.
Mike joined Mohawk International Raceway in its second season, in the late 1980s, when the track was named Frogtown International Speedway and it ran on Friday nights, drawing one of the toughest weekly 358 Modified fields in the Northeast. Mike and his family covered the racing action at MIR every week for over twenty years and Mike and Jane's photo stand was the first stop on race night for so many fans, drivers and officials, not just to get photos and racing newspapers and other souvenirs, but to hear stories, tell jokes and renew friendships.
Mike Watts and Mike Perrotte started the Champlain Valley Motorsports Show in the late 1990s and in the past decade, the show has become a huge success. The Champlain Valley Motorsports Show has become the kick-off of the racing season for most Champlain Valley racing teams and fans, and it is a time when everyone can get together after a long, cold winter to look forward to the excitement ahead in the summer months.
Mike and Jane Watts have been so committed to racing and in many respects, their family life revolved around the sport. Mike proposed to Jane during a racing show at Airborne Park Speedway. Their sons Mike Jr. and Andy grew up at the races and are still deeply involved in the sport.
Mike was known throughout the Northeast as he traveled to many other speedways to cover the action, in addition to covering the weekly action at Mohawk International Raceway and Airborne Park Speedway. His photos were prominently featured in racing newspapers such as Gater Racing News and Area Auto Racing News, in local news coverage, and on many racing websites.
Mike played a special role in racing: His photos document the history of five decades of racing in the North Country. When our memories fade and the old newspaper clippings are brittle, we will always have Mike's amazing photographs to stir our memories and tell the story of the sport we love so much. For that and so much more, we are thankful.
Mike Watts made as many friends as he took photos...and he took a lot of photos over the years. Mike gave so much to the racing community -- he gave us great photos, yes, but he also gave us great memories, great stories and jokes, great times and conversations. He was a great friend to all of us and we will miss him deeply.
Our thoughts and our prayers are with Jane, Mike Jr. and Andy in this very difficult time.
Thank you, Mike, for being our friend. You will be in our hearts forever.

(Brudenell, PE, July 26, 2010) Farmington, ME native Cassius Clark will challenge the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour regulars at the Atlantic Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld on Aug 6th and 7th.
Clark will be traveling light when he heads to Nova Scotia for the Cat 250, packing his helmet, driver's suite, gloves, shoes, but no car. He will pilot the # 5 Chapman Brothers Construction Chevrolet Impala of Jonathan Hicken, who is the best man for a lifelong friend's wedding that weekend and Clark volunteered to run the car for Jonathan.
How does Clark, from a small town outside of Augusta, ME, connect with Hicken who lives on the eastern end of PE? Through North Carolina of course! Jonathan's brother Andrew, who race fans will remember as the crew chief for his uncle, Dale Holmes, works in the Jeff Fultz race shop in Mooresville, NC. Clark, a PASS North and South competitor works out of the Fultz shop when competing in the south and became good friends with Andrew. One conversation led to another, with the result being the ride being offered and accepted. So it's Jonathan off to the church and Cassius heading to the Atlantic Cat 250.
It appears to be the summer of weddings for the Hicken family. Andrew has been home for two weeks vacation and hasn't been seen at the track. He's had two life long friends being married on the two weekends he's been home.
Clark has experience at Scotia Speedworld, having raced both the Forbes 150 and Atlantic Cat 250 numerous times and expects to be strong in Hicken's car. Hicken picked-up his first Tour win of his career at Oyster Bed Speedway on June 27th and sits fourth in points heading into the this weekend's CARQUEST Pro Stock action, so the car has been good in 2010. Putting the two together, experienced driver and good car, adds up to a contender for the win and a solid chance to take home the Scott Fraser Memorial Trophy. Clark was always a fan favourite at Scotia Speedworld and looks forward to racing the # 5 Chapman brothers Construction car at the Atlantic Cat 250 and renewing old friendships.

Cassius Clark To Challenge at Atlantic CAT 250
By Greg Calnan - Brockville, ON (Saturday, July 24th) - After rain spoiled the Ontario Dirt Late Models season opener at Autodrome Edelweiss on Friday the tour traveled to Brockville for another attempt at racing. Weather kept the event in question right up until race time, but fortunately the rain held off allowing the 27 teams in attendance to take to the track.
In the 30 lap feature it was David Scott and Andrew Reaume on the front row. Reaume was able to power to the lead from the top line and held the number one spot for the opening laps. Very quickly it was apparent that turn one would be a problem for the ODLM drivers. Paul Grigsby found himself into the barrier on the entry of the corner in the opening laps. Shortly after that yellow flag a multi-car crash left many teams in despair. Jason Haskell, Greg Belyea, Adam West, Charlie Sandercock and Keith Cameron were among those with the most damage done to their machines.
As the race got back underway Reaume continued to show the way out front. Pole sitter David Scott however slowly began to reel in the leader and took the top position midway through the A Main. Scott set sail from that point on and cruised to the win. “I love this track, it was fun to race on and the fans are great!” said the Garland, Pennsylvania native.
Reaume was able to hold on to second place while defending series champion Greg Oakes finished third.
The win gave Scott the Ontario Dirt Late Model point lead heading into round two at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 25th.

By Greg Calnan - Cornwall, ON (Sunday, July 25th) - The Ontario Dirt Late Models continued their eastern Ontario swing on Sunday with the tours second annual visit to Cornwall Motor Speedway. A total of 25 cars were on hand for the second round of the 2010 season.
Andrew Reaume and Chad Valone lined up on the front row for the 35 lap main event and at the drop of the green flag it was Valone grabbing the early lead. Jason McCrory brought out the first yellow of the evening with a slide through the infield grass. As the field went back to green conditions it was again Valone setting the pace until lap 3 when chaos ensued. Similar to the previous night at Brockville a multi-car crash filled the racing surface in the first corner. A number of drivers were involved with Keith Cameron, Mike Lewis and Jason Haskell receiving the worst of the damage.
After a brief time for cleanup the race was back underway with Valone continuing to lead and his teammate, and winner the previous night, David Scott moving his way up to the top three. Outside pole sitter Reaume began to fade in the middle stages of the race and gave up second to Scott. Both Greg Oakes and Peter Mantha were able to get by Reaume setting up a four car battle for the win.
On lap 16 Jeff Mutton brought out the yellow for a spin in corner two. The restart would feature the team cars of Valone and Scott on the front row. Valone continued his dominance by riding the top line around the track. The top groove began to lose its speed though as the laps wore on. Third place Oakes began to find bite on the bottom lane and moved past Scott for second and set his sights on the leader. The top two began to catch lapped traffic and it proved to be costly for Valone. He and Oakes split a lapped car going into corner three. Oakes was able to squeeze by on the bottom while Valone went too high and ran out of track. Valone went over the top of the banking and came to a rest in turn four bringing out the yellow on lap 23.
Oakes and Scott duked it out on the restart while a patient Mantha sat in third. Lapped traffic was the story in the closing laps as the top three chased down the win. Mantha did the best job of navigating through the field moving past Scott for second. Mantha then got the break he needed as he and leader Oakes went into the third corner side by side. A slower car in the path of Oakes allowed Mantha to rocket around the top of three and four and grab the lead at the line. The Gatineau, Quebec native lead the closing laps on the way to his first career late model victory. Oakes crossed the line second while Scott maintained the point lead with his third place finish.
It was a popular win for the former Cornwall Motor Speedway DIRTcar Small Block Modified driver. His victory propelled him two positions into third in Ontario Dirt Late Model points standings just 6 points out of first.
The Ontario Dirt Late Models return to action on Sunday, August 1st at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario.

CONCORD, NC - July 26, 2010 - They have 24 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championships between them, and during the weekend Tony Stewart Racing's Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser surged toward the top of the LaCrosse Footwear Extreme Tough Challenge standings after events at Williams Grove Speedway and Lebanon Valley Speedway.
Schatz was the top-running World of Outlaws driver on Friday night at Williams Grove in Mechanicsburg, Pa., marking the second time he has earned the most points in an Extreme Tough Challenge event this season. On Sunday night at Lebanon Valley in West Lebanon, N.Y., Steve Kinser was the top touring driver at the checkered flag and picked up the maximum five Extreme Tough Challenge points for the first time this year, moving him into a third-place tie with Kasey Kahne Racing's Joey Saldana at 13 points overall.
Through five Extreme Tough Challenge events for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and three events for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Schatz is now the overall leader by four points over World of Outlaws Late Model Series star Shane Clanton.
"It's great that LaCrosse Footwear is involved and my hat's off to them," said Schatz, the four-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion. "Anyone that gets involved and puts up money like they are doing is helping the sport. Hopefully we can keep running up front in their races."
In addition to Schatz and Kinser, Jason Meyers picked up seven points between the two events and Craig Dollansky earned four points, his first points of the mini-series that concludes in November with the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Clanton has earned the most points in two of the three World of Outlaws Late Model Series Extreme Tough Challenge events. Through eight events (three Late Model races, five Sprint Car races), 18 different drivers have earned points.
The Extreme Tough Challenge features 16 overall events - eight per series - where drivers who are competing full-time in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series or the World of Outlaws Late Model Series earn points toward the championship. The top five finishers no matter the series will share a $15,000 point fund, and the winning driver will receive the Extreme Tough Challenge champion trophy.
Also, at each Extreme Tough Challenge event, LaCrosse will distribute keepsake posters as well as provide hat and t-shirt giveaways. Fans can get involved at every race through a unique Extreme Tough competition with the chance to win a pair of LaCrosse boots.
LaCrosse Footwear develops performance footwear and apparel designed to help users dominate their ground in work and recreation. LaCrosse boots, including the Extreme Tough™ line, can be found at premium retailers such as Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain.

Thorold, Ontario (July 26) - Last Monday Brett Hearn celebrated his 105th Super DIRTcar Series Victory at Autodromme Granby. Ten Mondays ago the Sussex New Jersey driver celebrated after winning the Zavitz Financial Strategies 100 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series event at Merrittville Speedway.
One week from today when the Thorold DIRTcar sanctioned facility hosts the Big Block Super DIRTcar Series will Hearn win his leading 20th SDS Event north of the US Border?
Two times in his storied career he has come home out front in the Big Block version (1986 and 1991) with a win during the Civic Holiday tradition when it was a 358 event in 1995.
“At one time Matt got so far ahead of us I couldn't believe we were hanging on to second at that point,” noted Hearn, 50, after setting a single-season record with his 10th straight top-five tally to begin the series steering the Madsen Motorsports no. 20 Wentworth Custom Homes-Kruger-WLR-BPG/TEO machine. “So I'm real pleased with this (finish), it wasn't a win but we've been so consistent this year, just gotta knock down a couple more Ws now.”
“After that last yellow, sometimes they let you go up to the leader single-file on the outside so I was trying to get up to the leader's back bumper. But on the RACEceiver they told me to get back behind a few of the lapped cars. I did that, yet by the time I broke free of all the lapped cars (Matt) was out there a little too far. At the end we had a good line going in, I think we were catching him a little bit but he was probably just taking it easy and being safe,” added Hearn, who already owns a series-best 102 wins and is in quest of an unmatched seventh overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Championship.
In last year's event Hearn could not catch winner Matt Sheppard but took the runner-up spot en route to the 2010 Mr. DIRTcar Title.
Back in Victory Lane in May Hearn commented, “We knew we had a good car tonight right from hot laps. Then setting fast time was another good indication, especially going out late and still being the quickest. I've always liked racing here, its really cool when you can come out to someone else's home track, run this good and be able to pick up a win.”
The inaugural Bob St. Amand Sr. Memorial 100 Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series Event Monday August 2nd is an event that Merrittville Speedway has hosted since 1972 - the year 'Sr.' won his Modified Points Championship. Since that first event - the stars of DIRTcar Modified racing have challenged Merrittville's talented field of hometown heroes in the Canadian Civic Holiday Classic.
Hearn and defending race winner Sheppard will lead the list of previous winners to Merrittville that could include Jimmy Phelps, the most recent Big Block SDS Winner Danny Johnson, Alan Johnson, Steve Paine and others including Dale Planck, Billy Decker, Pat Ward, Larry Wight Billy Dunn and a host of other DIRTcar Stars.
It has become a must see event on any race fan's race schedule as race teams and race fans alike have come to enjoy the event and all that the surrounding Niagara Region has to offer.
Located in the heart of one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world - the track is minutes from the roar of Niagara Falls with its world class casinos and attractions. The Niagara Peninsula is also the most well-known and developed wine region in Canada and North America. Race fans may also wish to make it a doubleheader and enjoy all the action of Saturday August 1st's Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Program hosted by Cotton Inc.
A Kids Bike Giveaway will also take place in addition to the famous pre-race Pasta Dinner hosted by Club Castropignano.
The countdown to the 1st Annual Bob St. Amand Memorial has begun. In the weeks … days and minutes leading up to the L. St. Amand Enterprises presentation stay tuned to

BOB ST. AMAND SR MEMORIAL ONE WEEK AWAY AT MERRITTVILLE
EDMONTON, AB, Sunday July 25 2010: Scott Steckly driver of the No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was second quickest in practice and in qualifying ran an almost identical time to start the Canadian Tire 100 in the fifth position. Steckly finished the 32 lap event in third place.
The No. 22 was fast during both practice session on Friday and Saturday and when all was said and done Steckly had posted the second quickest time.
In Qualifying the driver of the No.22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was scored in fifth. Steckly navigated the 14 turn temporary course with a time of 1:21.262 and an average speed of 87.4 mph. After qualifying Steckly was disappointed with his fifth place qualifying effort stating “we were second in both practice sessions but will make some changes for the race and hopefully move up.” As the green flag waved on Sunday afternoon for the 100km event, Steckly was on the inside of row three and was jockeying for position heading into the turn one. Steckly managed to maintain his position and would run in the top five for the first 20 laps of the race.
Steckly was still running in fifth when a late race caution occurred and on the restart he was able to pick up a position moving the No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Jumpstart Dodge into fourth place.
With only ten laps to Steckly was doing everything he could to try and catch the No. of 69 Trevor Siebert. “ we were not as good as he was in the area leading up to the good passing zone” commented Steckly after the race. “So I worked on getting better through that area so I could be in a position to pass him going into turn one” he added.
Steckly managed to do just that, as he caught Seibert and passed the No.69 heading into turn one just after the white flag flew. Steckly held off Seibert for the remaining13 turns and crossed the finish line in third.
Steckly is currently fourth in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points standings.
Finish: 1. J. R. Fitzpatrick 2. Anthony Simone 3. Scott Steckly
The Canadian Tire 100 will be broadcast on TSN on Sunday Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. ET.
Next up for the 22 Racing Team will be the Cruisin the Dub 300 presented by A & W from Motoplex Speedway in Vernon BC on Saturday July 31st.

STECKLY ON PODIUM IN EDMONTON
Mark Dilley driver of the No. 9 PartSource/Dickies Dodge Avenger started the weekend with an eleventh place qualifying effort and crossed the finish line in sixteenth in Sunday's Canadian Tire 100.
Mary Dilley posted the eleventh quickest time in practice on Friday and Saturday and it was more of the same for Dilley in qualifying as he navigated the 14 turn 1.973 mile temporary road course with a time of 1:23.476 averaging 85.1 mph. Dilley will line up on the starting grid in eleventh.
As the green flag flew Dilley and his competitors were anxious, maybe a little too anxious and on the first lap heading into turn one everyone checked up and Dilley had nowhere to go. “We couldn't get stopped in time” commented Dilley, “Everyone checked up in front of us and it did serious damage to the hood of the car so we had to go to pit road.”
DILLEY FINDS DISAPPOINTMENT AGAIN IN EDMONTON
EDMONTON, AB, Sunday July 25 2010:
There was no caution so the No.9 team had to work quickly to get Dilley back out on the track, which they managed to do without going down lap. But the leaders were coming and on lap seven they passed the driver of the No.9 PartSource/Dickies Dodge Avenger, putting Dilly a lap down.
Don't count Dilley out yet though, as the caution flag flew and Dilley was the recipient of the lucky dog and got his lap back.
The green flag flew one again and with only ten laps to go and a beat up car Dilley had his work cut out for him, but with a little determination Dilley managed to cross the finish line on the lead lap in sixteenth place.
Finish: 1. J. R. Fitzpatrick 2. Anthony Simone 3. Scott Steckly 16.Mark Dilley
Dilley has moved into seventh place in the points and is looking to gain on sixth. The next event for the No. 9 team will be the second event of the three-race Western Canada swing which will take place at Vernon. The Cruisin the Dub 300 presented by A & W will take place at British Columbia's Motoplex Speedway on Saturday July 31st. The event will be broadcast on TSN on Sunday Aug. 1st at 11 a.m. EST.
Mark Dilley is supported by: PartSource, Rheem Canada, Leland Industries, Williamson-Dickie Canada Co., Exide Batteries, Mobil 1 and Sylvania.
